Keep Getting Moderate NAT on CoD: IW for XBOX. 3 Consoles On At Once

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I hope someone can help me out. I purchased the Netduma router and got it yesterday to replace my Nighthawk R7000.

We have 3 consoles that are in constant use. 1 Xbox One (wired) and 2 PS4 (both wifi). With the Nighthawk router, the Xbox was wired and with an Open NAT for both the game and the console. Unfortunately, the other two consoles would get moderate NAT.

The way that the R1 is set us is: SB6190(wired modem only) -> Netduma R1 -> XBox One (wired), Desktop (wired), Wifi Extender (wifi). Both PS4s are connected through the extender.

Now, the two PS4s have open NAT for both game and console and connection seems to be fine for them (I haven't gotten any complaints). My problem is with the wired Xbox One. Open NAT for the console and Moderate/Strict NAT for IW.

I have followed the instructions for the optimal settings, as well as the starting guides. I have also gone through multiple threads trying everything, and the game does not go to Open NAT. I keep having trouble connecting to friends and staying in lobbies, as well as staying in party chat with people.

Edit: Forgot to put my speeds: 150Mbps down, 50Mbps up. (this is constant). The router is also on the latest firmware.

I was having a similar issue with my PS4 where the Game itself would only display on Moderate... It seems the IW would only "on UPnP" acquisition the incorrect port handlers for 3074, where 3074 should have been under "DESC" "DemonwarePortMapping" it was not, it was simply "IP Address". The solution ultimately was to turn off UPnP, quit any open instances of IW... Turn on Settings ->UPnP □ "click check box"; Open either BO3 or MW Remastered, go to Multiplayer to provision the correct port handler, then close the game. Afterward try connecting to IW and you should see IW will be OPEN under NAT Type.

This post here: LINK is the full discussion on what we did to identify the very same issue. I hope it fixes your problem. Also, I don't use any other routers as a go between but I do use an extender. What I'm saying is I don't rent a modem/router from the ISP, because I have VerizonFIOS and FIOS doesn't lead a coax, just an RJ45/cat6 cable. So I save myself the $10-$15 rental charge from the provider. But if your provider is using a coaxial to give you internet then obviously keep what you are using, otherwise you can save yourself $120-$180/yr. If your provider does use an RJ45/Cat6 cable to give you the internet let me know, you'll want to obviously save the money, send back the router, call the ISP, have the reprovision your service to the mac address of the Netduma alone, and then you'll be all set! Cheers!!!

Hey, welcome to the forum! In-game NAT readings can sometimes be false. That issue can be caused by the Geo-filter. I'd recommend booting up the game before enabling the Geo-filter and seeing if that makes the NAT open.

If that doesn't work, are you using UPnP or port forwarding? You may need to manually port forward for the Xbox to get an open NAT.

Hi!

Thanks for answering. I ended up disconnecting the xbox and Netduma for about 15 minutes. Then, I reconnected the Netduma, doing port foward while making sure that Upnp was off. I reconnected the xbox and all is well now.

My bad, I do have my own modem. Nothing is being rented from Comcast. Everything that needs ethernet is connected with Cat6 cables. Anyway, I fixed it! Thanks.
