High amount of Lag - New to Netduma

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

We purchased our netduma last week and was very excited to start using it because we are pretty big gamers and anything that helps with lag is amazing. We have not been able to enjoy the netduma yet because we can't seem to get it to work correctly and we don't know what is wrong. I have done the test on dslreports and the results vary each and every time retry the test no matter if I adjust the netduma settings. If I adjust the congestion controls to one place and it shows a A at one point it will not stay that way and the next time it might be a C. I have also done the pingplotter test and included the link to those results. The biggest and most annoying problem that we have is the high amount of lag we have in games. Gears of War 4 is one of my all time favorite games at the moment and when I tried to play multiplayer with the netduma my character would beam all over the place every few seconds because connection would be temporary lost. Our download is  and upload is, but when doing the speedtest the download is lucky to reach 150. I hope some of you have some suggestions about what could be wrong and how I could fix it and thank you all for any help that you can provide.

Looks like something is wrong with your internet connection. As you are getting alot of 700ms+ lag spikes and packet loss. Its an ISP jitter issue and netduma can't do anything to help in that case. Do you have cable connection?

That's what I was thinking too... Unless something was uploading/downloading and causing those spikes and his setup was wrong so CC wasn't being used. That's why I asked for a detailed setup

Yep it is a cable connection and from what I have been reading on this forum maybe it is not the best option.

The modem we use is provided by our provider and the link to the exact modem is http://www.ubeeinteractive.com/products/cable/evw3230. We have it connected to the netduma with a ethernet cable.

Any other devices connected to it that could be bypassing the netduma and using the internet?

Nope not at all. At first we had other devices connected to it, but after high lag in games we unhooked everything on the netduma except the modem just to see if other devices could be causing issues. Still the same results in games though.

What I meant was, I can't really tell how many ethernet ports are on the back of that modem. If any other devices are connected directly to the modem or not... Seems like it's only a modem though so I assume it's only 1 port and that's going to the netduma

What I would try it pinging a more common website. I like to ping my ISP website. Also make sure you are running ping plotter on a wired pc since wireless won't be accurate. Try to do this on an idle line where nobody else is using it. If you still see those spikes every few seconds then it's definitely your ISP

I will like to add that before the netduma we had the connection through a d-link router. With the d-link the games were not lagging around as much but you could tell something was wrong due to the fact that enemies take shots and never die fairly. With the netduma though the lag is present but when its not lagging and beaming me around the duels between enemies seem fair.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Follow this for your speeds:

  • ALL devices connected to the R1
  • Reactive Algorithm
  • 100% anti-flood
  • Share excess enabled
  • Reset device prioritisation & apply
  • Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc
  • Disable deep packet in misc
  • Enable turbo mode
  • Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds.
  • Do a wired speed test from a PC

Then when gaming I would put anti-flood to 70/70 - I wouldn't worry about doing DSLReports, it's not necessary. 70/70 will prevent any local congestion. Ensure you have your console in hyper traffic.

I can't advise specific settings on Gears of War 4. However, we will be testing the game on Monday so can give more specific advice then. Though I believe you may be able to select your region to ensure a closer game. If not then would recommend ~1000km radius, strict on and ping assist 0.
