Absolutely helpless noob...

Hello,

First of all, I need to state that when it comes to networking, I'm a novice. I'm smart enough to figure it out with some help, but going into this, I have no experience with this type of thing.

Moving on...

I followed the directions that came with the packaging. Once I completed that, I attempted to join "Netduma R1" from the wifi list on my computer, but it just will not connect. Therefore, I can't connect to the control panel to investigate further.

I also tried to run an ethernet cable directly to my xbox, just to see if it was getting any type of signal, and that wasn't working either.

My ISP hub is a modem/router combination and I'm not sure if that's the problem. I'm wondering if I may need to disable the router and have it be in a "modem only" mode or something... That's the only thing I could think of, but again, I know nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I feel like, if I can get connected to the control panel, the rest will be easier to figure out with the help of this forums previous post and youtube tutorials.

Just need to connect first. Thanks a bunch for any help that you guys can provide!!!

What error are you having when trying to connect? Could you run a PC directly to the router so you can access the control panel? :)

Thanks for the quick reply!

Anyhow... That's the thing. I'm not even getting an error.

I select "Netduma R1" from the wifi drop menu, enter the serial number / pw and then my laptop appears to connect to the R1. However, when I try to open a website, nothing will load. So it seems like my computer and the R1 simply aren't communicating, even though it says that they're connected.

Also, I ran an ethernet cable between the R1 and my laptop, tried to connect to the panel and nothing happened.

When it says it has 'connected' can you access the router by typing http://192.168.88.1 into your browser or by typing http://r1?

I'm sorry, I should have been more clear about that. When I keep saying "control panel" - that's what I meant. I tried both http://192.168.88.1and http://r1 and it repeatedly just says that I'm not connected to the Internet. I'm going to run through all of the steps from scratch, one more time.

Ok, so you got Wall >> Modem/Router >> Netduma >> PC/Laptop?

The Netduma should be connected via port 1 to the Modem/Router.

Hi BroSafari,

It sounds like you have a static IP for your old router. Lets focus on you getting the control panel up and running first without worrying about Internet. We'll do that later.

So make sure the only thing connected to the router is your PC & that its wired. Make sure its connected to port 2 (NOT port 1!) on the Netduma.

When you type in http://192.168.88.1do you see anything?

If not can you try connect to the wifi using a phone for example and see if you can access http://192.168.88.1

Based on that I can assist further :)

Yeah, that's exactly how it's set up right now. Ran through it all twice to verify.

Tidbit: My ISP hub is still sending wifi from its built-in router. If I choose that network on my PC/Laptop, I'm getting an Internet signal (which is how I'm communicating with you now). Anyhow, I'm not sure if the old router could possibly be interfering with what I'm trying to do with the R1.

I plugged my PC into the R1 directly, typed in http://192.168.88.1and nothing comes up.

Then, I tried to connect to the wifi with my phone. No luck at all there.

oh ok remember the Wifi password is upper case and does NOT include the forward slash & the 3 numbers after it.

I think you have a static IP on your PC. On the PC can you try the following guide here please: http://forum.netduma.com/topic/542-solution-cant-get-to-netduma-dashboard-netduma-bricked/

Can you access the control panel that way?

I would eliminate all other things until you are able to connect to your router config page just plug in the netduma to power and run an Ethernet cable from your computer to port 2 of the router and try to access the page from your browser. If that don't work maybe factory reset it and clear all cache and cookies from your browser.

I would be carful about factory resetting using the button on the back - I've seen it cause more issues than its solved, lol.

Unfortunately, no. This is very frustrating. I can't help but think that this is human error on my part, but I've done everything that I can to troubleshoot.

Btw - The password was correct. Again, it appears that I AM connected to the R1 via wifi, but I can't access the control panel.

Have you also turned off the wifi on the other router first as this can cause issues?

This is something I mentioned in my initial post. My old router is a modem/router from Time Warner. Considering that it belongs to TWC, I wouldn't be surprised if that's the issue. Nothing of theirs seems to work properly. I'm searching Google to figure out how to shut off the wifi on it.

Ah okay then listen to crossy he knows best

I agree with you about concentrating on fixing one issue on a time. And it is counterintuitive to thing that the 'reset' button can sometimes cause more issues :) The button does work but if you press it for too long I've seen people's routers get messed up :)

Did Iain's recommendation work with the static IP? Also, are you getting an error saying you have connected with an incorrect password when connecting to Wifi?

Nah, it didn't work. I get no error message when connecting to wifi. My laptop appears to be connected to the R1. I'm just not getting any sort of signal or ability to connect using http://192.168.88.1

When connected to the R1 via Wifi, can you go to a command prompt and type 'ping 192.168.88.1'. What comes up on the command prompt window?

This is what comes up when I typed that into Terminal on my laptop when connected to the R1.
