Still getting heavy ping spikes when others use the internet.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've configured my Netduma as is said in the guide on the wiki, but I still get ping spikes when others use the internet. Less than I did before I got the Netduma, but still enough to be unplayable (220+).

My speeds are:

Down: 6.92

Up: 0.32 (I know, I know).

I have set those as my speeds, set congestion control as 70% and 70%, 90% and 90%, etc. but to no avail.

I also set the games I play as hyper services, but still nothing.

Can anyone recommend me settings that would work for me?

Thanks.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

You need to have ALL devices connected to the R1 otherwise congestion control will not be able to work correctly. Ensure this is the case first.

Thanks!

I have ensured that all devices are connected. I've set up everything in the quick start guide, in addition to using the wiki.

I'm wondering which settings I should use, or if I'm doing something wrong. I know it's most likely the upload causing the problem.

Also I was looking at the network monitor during the lag spikes, and devices are using 1.5 Mbit of upload, but I don't even have that much to begin with. So is there an issue there?

I have the same issue and find if untick share excess on download only is does help a lot.it acts as a bandwidth limiter!!!

Woah I think it worked, just tried this and played a 10 min match of CS:GO, ping stayed at 50-60 the whole time with no spikes.

Thanks a lot. I will bump this thread if the issue starts again, but so far so good.

My bandwidth is 1Mbps down and 288Kbps up

So I know how you feel.

Yeah, these speeds can be painful at times, especially when sharing with three others. Lucky there are devices like the Netduma ;)

Having low bandwidth is the main issue.  You don't even have "broadband" by fcc definition.  If you have other options; higher tier, another ISP, etc I would look for more bandwidth.  Seeing as Netflix and Youtube use more than half of your max available download 1 user online at the same time as you could be using more than 50% of your available bandwidth.  I see the same too, I have recently switched my netduma from my 100Mbps cable line to the 50Mbps VDSL line and I see my download monitor reaching 69Mbps even though my service is capped at 50Mbps also have seen my upload show more than my 10Mbps upload... I think it's just my networks usage threshold trying to utilize more and the duma is measuring more because it's not updating as fast as the packets are sending or receiving so you still show down or up from X as 512Kbps and then Y kicks in with another 512kbps so at that moment it shows a peak of 1Mbps...  Could be wrong but that was my thought. And that my network is using more than I have available.  At that time I had 3 kids downloading a game from their PS4's so I slid the sliders down to 50% and my ping went form fluctuating to resting at my normal rate of 33ms in game.  BO3.
