Adding another router to the setup

I am installing an asus rtn66-u tomorrow and was wondering what the setup would be as far as the chain of hardware. I have an isp provided modem/router, with the Duma connected to it running everything. I want to add the 66-u to where I can take advantage of its QoS settings and try it out as far as lag is concerned for AW. Would the setup be as follows: isp modem to 66-u to Duma, with the ps4 connected to the Duma port. I know it seems redundant to have 2 routers, but my isp router doesn't have a QoS setting, so I want to have that capability. If it won't work or will just make life difficult I will probably just send the 66-u back. Anybody running this kind of setup or if Iain and the guys can help or tell me I'm an idiot I'd appreciate it lol.

I have that same router it works pretty easy to plug your netduma to it and your gaming consoles to the the netduma. What I did was give it a reserved dhcp IP address then I put that ip in the dmz section of the asus router. If you don't plug your other devices or connect the wireless devices to it you won't be able to use congestion control. I didn't worry about that because I have enough bandwidth to go around, however the asus routers qos can be used just like congestion control because you can set an exact amount of bandwidth allowance for each device by ip so you can give the netduma's ip enough to game comfortably without worrying about another device eating it all up.

Ok, so you set the dhcp ip for the r1 using the asus? I have done setups before so I'm slightly familiar but this seems a little more in depth. Basically just plugging the r1 into a port on the asus will give it an IP address and I'll just make that the static ip for the r1. Then, using that address go into the asus settings and set the qos for the r1 ip? I think that's what your saying. It sounds simple to me, not that I thought it was difficult but chaining hardware like that I was trying to see if there was something I was missing. Appreciate the reply bro. Hopefully I'm back here saying everything worked the first time lol.

Modem>Asus>Netduma is how I run my setup...

Give the Netduma a static IP in the asus settings.

Add it to your DMZ

Enjoy.

Although using the Asus QoS is kinda counter productive of having the R1 in the first place lol because we all know that the R1 is just a QoS system, right Iain?

Thanks again fellas! Yeah I know that the r1 will allow traffic control, but I want to set it at specific numbers up and down specifically to what people have said worked pretty well. I'm hoping for good results but honestly not expecting much. The game is basically a pile of shi* if you play on the dedi's. I'm just wanting to test it out and see what happens. The Duma is doing its job as far as location and such, but since no one can find a p2p game very often, we don't get to experience it in all its glory. I still can't believe that a ping of 35 ms with no spikes plays like this. Even if it can't be fixed someone should explain. Someone had a very lengthy post a few days ago basically describing everything and I wanna say I agree. I think they are putting people on the dedi who have all kinds of mixed connections. I see at least one 2 bar or 1 bar in my lobby every match. So no matter what you get stuck playing with someone who has a crap connection and it kills the lobby.

Haha hes right if youre purchasing the asus just for the qos, the congestion control does kinda let you distribute bandwidth with that pie chart graph, so in essense it works the same way.  If I'm not mistaken it doesn't let you put in a specific bandwidth limit for each device on the network but im sure thats something the devs will consider adding on future cloud updates *hint hint *  ;)  ;) I decided to keep my asus in the mix because i do use qos because when my server gets to downloading it can eat up some serious bandwidth, however the asus has some real serious other networking tools like ddns, 5ghz wireless speed and some others that not the everyday average user needs that I love to tinker with and also not yet available on the netduma as I wouldn't expect to be because its main focus is as a gaming router.

but my point is if its just qos your interested in maybe you should mess around with the conjestion control first.

Hi Spedie,

I'm not sure if this issue is resolved, if not let me know. But I'd highly recommend using our congestion control page, its very advanced although the GUI does not make it look that way.
