Jerrod710
Ok, I am new, just got this thing setup last night. I also want to give a quick props and thanks for developing a product that was easy and simple to get setup and quick. My question is this.... If I am running with a group of friends, say 5 of us on Black Ops 3 XBOX One, and I am the only one running a Net Duma how will this perform in the matchmaking and lag? I live in Oklahoma. Others live in Arkansas which is the next state over from me. But one lives in Washington and another lives in Arizona. Should I run as the host/party leader? Or does that matter? Is there anything I should or could do to try to limit lag if there should be any when running with a party given where they live? Also occasionally I have a friend that lives in Japan that plays with us... Is there a miracle in this thing that will fix that lag time with that kind of distance? I hope this makes since. I am a noob at this. But playing solo last night was fantastic with every lobby having a 25ms to a 30ms ping and only had a brief few seconds of lag in one game. BIG__DOG
it would be best for you to be the host if you are in a group/party/ welcome to the duma army
Slipknot31286sic6
Correct you must. Must host to. Benefit Netduma. It will find server closest to you. If you aren't host. If it will find random host server. Not always close to host of party. Seen all of us Midwest / west coast. Put server in NJ. One game then Atlanta second. . Was like wtf? If you are host. Always same server all time.
Jerrod710
Thanks. So they people in my party would experience the same gameplay or connection I would be (if they did not have some kind of issue with their internet) even though one guy in the party lives 1,700 miles away or the other in Japan? Just to make sure I am on the same page and understand correctly.
Slipknot31286sic6
Also notice if you play against a party and one guy is in say Michigan but his friend in party is Idk Florida or even UK. Netduma will allow them in your lobby if host of that party meets your requirements, distance or ping. Even tho guy is 3,000 miles away. I wish netduma monitor party's too not jus individual. You'll see people still exploit things. Also one min everyone is say 40ms ping in lobby. But once In game someone might be 300ms ping running udp unicorn or something in background. Won't kick them from the lobby either. Netduma still does its job majority of time but not 100%
Slipknot31286sic6
They wont see same connection as you sadly. Game play will be better but it's always who ever closest to server gets a slight advantage if you run n gun. If you a camper. Farther away from server sometimes benefits you. . Usually when I host. Always 4 bars. Rarely ever issues. Even when people are few states away. Your Japan guy will get 2 to 3 bar no matter what cuz he so faraway. I see this when a friend in Canada joins. You can't fix their bad ping.
Slipknot31286sic6
My friend is 1200miles from me. He experience Aug 80 ping from Florida to Chicago server. He actually plays better getting 20 plus kills. 4 or so deaths. Vs when he plays on Atlanta server. Going 14 and 10 with 30ms ping. No server game is ever same tho. Trial and error best I can say. Server for me is like 100 miles away.

You would need to be party leader in order to benefit everyone, otherwise you could potentially block yourself from getting a game as they won't have the same restrictions you can set. I would place your home location in the middle of you and your friends to find a server that is fair for all of you. This will be all you can do for them to get them a better connection, you of course can use congestion control. In terms of your friend in Japan you can add them to your allow list so you can always play with them regardless of your Geo-filter settings. However, he is simply too far away so you won't be able to limit the lag caused when playing with him.
