Ninjawebby
Looking for some advice on whether i need to have a separate router for my ISP PPPoE and have me Duma in a DMZ. Or im ok to use Duma for PPPoE with no ISP VDSL router. I currently only use a Vigor 130 PPPoE pass-through modem straight into the Duma and use the Duma PPPoE settings, however, im getting a message on the router saying speeds could be slower and they definitely are compared to when i had just a Netgear router. Is this best practice or should i put the Netgear back? Also as my Cisco switch feeds all my devices PoE and WiFi AP's my congestion control GUI is crazy busy. Im thinking put Netgear back, Duma into DMZ and just hardwire my PS4's to the Duma. On the gaming side only play Destiny, im experiencing lag still and wanted advice on the following settings. - I using the Destiny build already in the Duma - UPnP enabled, however wondered if Chives build with manual port forwarding is better? Put i dont have port trigger on Vigor as only modem, so have no way of doing, only port forwarding. - DHCP lease not sure what to do here. IP address of PS4 and then assign a lease number? - Geo filer as per wiki recommendations 70/70, 900miles, pre-emptive, no strict. - Congestion settings ok bandwith 80/20 same as BT infinity although lower speeds due to PPPoE being used on Duma. - LAN and WAN same as Chives, however, i havent set up PS4 as a static IP only DHCP. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 10, 2016 Administrators Share Posted August 10, 2016 Hey, welcome to the forum! Given your speeds you should be fine to keep your existing set up. Just follow this to get your full speeds: Reactive Algorithm 100% anti-flood Share excess enabled Reset device prioritisation & apply Disable IPv6 in WAN, LAN & misc Disable deep packet in misc Ensure the ethernet cables you're using connecting the R1 to hub & R1 to PC are Cat5e+/can handle your speeds. Do a wired speed test from a PC For Destiny can you do this please: Ensure everything is appearing as it should by adhering to this guide: http://support.netduma.com/en/support/solutions/articles/16000022408-why-can-t-i-see-anything-on-the-geo-filter- Ensure auto & bleeding edge cloud is enabled & apply. Apply even if they are already selected - this will flush the cloud. If you have strict off look at the map when you get one of these errors, do you see anything being blocked? If so please click it and get the ID and then let me know what it is please. If the Geo-filter is disabled and it still occurs then it cannot be the router as it won't be blocking anything. Ninjawebby
Morning Fraser, settings worked very well thank you. Lost the internet for some reason, but rebooted everything and it was OK. The message i got relating to PPPoE was when i set the bandwidth management, you have a pop up that asks if you want the router to set bandwidth automatically. I have attached a screen shot (actually cant see an attachment button lol). Im not sure having the Duma as the PPPoE is an issue as speeds where 25/3 on WiFi. Will try speeds hard-wired to tonight. Speedtest on WiFi laptop was 54/14, so respectable considering they are both WiFi. Would changing the DNS settings to google 8.8.8.8 and secondary 8.8.4.4 affect anything in my house? My control 4 system seems to stop working when i change the DNS settings from Auto. Also on auto-ping do you keep settings at 0? Previously i set to 30 and had no games outside geo filter, leaving at 0 had a few long distance servers jump in on games and i couldn't temp ban. Last question, promise! Is UPnP better for dual PS4s in same house? When playing on my own would port forwarding be better than UPnP? Just fine tuning now very happy with the results as my snipes were registering instantly! Had a few laggy games but not as much as if the geo was turned off.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted August 11, 2016 Administrators Share Posted August 11, 2016 That popup is fine, it's just letting you know. It only really becomes a thing if you have over 100mbps which you don't so that's fine. DNS settings don't really need to be changed, they won't give you a noticeable benefit. I'd stay on auto. You mean ping assist? Sounds like you have strict mode off. Strict on, PA 0 means only games within you radius. It should keep both consoles open in the network settings yes. As CoD seems to be a bit weird and not take that reading you could port forward manually to achieve that. Great to hear you're enjoying it
