How does this happen?

Recommended Posts

I was playing BO3 Arena today (PS4) with my girl. We have two consoles on the same network. I was hosting the game & chat party for us so I had the geo filter enabled on my console only. During a match, 2 of the enemy team players were showing a 3 bar and they were lagging/jittering REALLY bad on screen to the point where it was almost impossible to kill them. It was almost like they were on a 1 bar but they weren't. I kept checking throughout the game and they both stayed at a consistent 3 bar. The other 2 players on their team had a consistent 4 bar as well as all 4 people on our team. It appeared that all 4 of the enemy team were in a party as well. Immediately after the match ended, I checked the geo filter and all but one host was within the 900 mile set GF radius (including the NJ dedi). However the lone wolf player/host was showing in the damn South Pole!! How does this happen? Could it be because my girl's console didn't have her GF enabled too or could it be that their party leader host was within the GF radius which allowed the connection but one or two of their teammates weren't?

I've included some screen shots of the GF page settings in the Dropbox link below but here's a quick run down of my relevant settings. Let me know if you guys need any additional info though.

My location: Pennsylvania (US)

GF Radius: 900 miles

PA: 0

Strict Mode: Enabled

The person showing in the south pole was probably the person playing on the same network as you. If the IP isn't in the Netduma's database then by default it shows it in the south pole.

Well... The penguins like cod too!

No, probably just a mislocated IP address as stated above. Also, you do know that just because you set your filter that doesn't stop other players from joining that server from miles and miles away right?

I just realized that this morning I actually plugged her the Ethernet cable into my ISP modem (long story) but that would make sense then based on what you guys we're saying. I plugged the cable back into the Duma just now. Thanks guys!

Also I thought that I would only connect to dedi's or player hosts within the set GF radius as long as I had PA set to zero and strict mod enabled? I know that doesn't always guarantee 4 bars/low pings 100% of the time tho but still doesn't make sense why I would connect outside of that range? Unrelated to the South Pole user error today lol

What I was saying is, imagine you set the filter to connect to a dedi within 100 miles... That won't stop someone from another country from connecting to that same server and them lagging.

That's correct; the host you connected to was the one within the Geofilter radius, as it is impossible to connect to hosts outside the radius with strict mode enabled. However, the other players connected to that host from a long way away, or they had terrible connections themselves, bringing the quality of the experience down.

The South Pole player was the person connected to your network.
