bagsta69
Hiya yall, I have noticed over the last few nights that when I play solo the game pretty much runs smooth, when I party up with a friend from America (100ms ping) It is still a pretty decent connection. However when another friend joins the party (with me as host) from the same city (20ms ping) the game becomes literally unplayable. I went from an average 3 KDR on tdm last night to a 0.2 for the duration he was in our lobby. The second he left the game went back to playable. My base ping is 9MS, Myself and my American friend are both hardwired but the guy from my city plays over wifi and swears he has no issues. What if anything could be causing the poor connection when he joins, it surely cannot be because he is on wifi that my game goes down the crapper but I cannot think of any other reason. Any advice welcome.
quicknoped
Why wouldn't it be his wifi? Even if he has a lot of bandwidth, wifi adds a ton of latency. Wifi is a huge handicap in any FPS. Some people learn to adjust their play style to compensate for bad lag. You could buy him a 100 ft. ethernet cord and insist he uses it when you play with him. http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=102&cp_id=10208&cs_id=1020814&p_id=9557&seq=1&format=
major masingil
Bagsta, I play in a weekly game where one of the regular participants uses his cell phone as his internet connection 9 times out of 10. When I look on my ping graph of the people in the party sometimes he is 150 ms and others he is over 300 ms. As you can imagine it adds a ton of issues to the party. Some of the worst lag I've seen, and it compounds when there are other 1 bar players on the opposite team. I'm betting your issue appears when XB live needs to negotiate the menage a trois of very different pings. With the wifi speeds being so variable it could have a hard time averaging out the party and bringing your party's ping into the actual game with the other players. Of course I'm just throwing ideas out there, and I am in no way a qualified expert. Maybe the results of the lag comp experiment, or a different version of the experiment could help shed some light on this?
bagsta69
Thank you for both responses, I thought with him being on wifi it would only affect his connection but it would seem that it is having a negative effect on my connection. I have offered him a set of powerline plugs and even a tp link router with only a couple of months use to replace his shitty old thing that's about 4 years old as well. Cheers for the input. Should have said I am on PS4.
