One of Riot Games Network Engineers (of League of Legend fame) has written a couple of article on why games lag and what they've done about it to improve their game taking a quite drastic step. Makes for fascination reading. I thought a few here might be interested in them:-

I'll try and read that later but I am not surprised. When we were testing LoL for Host Analysis I saw some of the most stable pings I've ever seen! Like a flat 25ms the entire time.
