Router setup issues

Recommended Posts

Hello netduma community, I recently purchased a netduma r1 router and was extremely excited to set it up. Upon 2 attempts to set it up for my Xbox one, I have had no success. Here is the situation. I live in an apartment complex/dorm with provided internet service called "Airwave". This internet provider allows you to use your own routers, like the netduma, by plugging straight into the ethernet port on the wall. They say no modem is necessary. Before a nuetduma and what I am currently using for gaming now is a Apple airport extreme and it works very well. However upon setting up my netduma wired to my Xbox one, I will get a message saying that the netduma recognizes it is connected to a router and "usually circumvents this" but it prompts me to open a new window. The new window never opens. Next, upon plugging in my R1 to the xbox one, I do get an open NAT but a DHCP error is displayed and I cannot connect to multiplayer gaming. I tweeted to Netduma a while back and they told me to make sure my xbox is connected via automatic settings. It is. I really want to use this router. Please help! Im trying to keep this as short as possible, if I need to provide more info, let me know.

What IP address is the R1 getting on it's WAN port? Preferred is a ##.##.###.### kind of address. Not a 192.168.#.# or 10.# or 172.#

What LAN IP address pool did you use before the R1? 192.168.1.1? The R1 uses 192.168.88.1 so it should conflict with any thing you used before however you can change this before connecting the R1 to the ISP service if you want too. I changed mine to 192.168.0.1 for my networking needs for me.

Ensure all LAN cabling is good and CAT6 is preferred.

Set up your ISP speeds UP and Down that you pay for on the R1.

Run thur the wikis on the forum page to help you get the router set up.

Set up IP reservations for the xbox as well.

Disable GeoFilter untill you get the R1 set up working with a PC and speeds are to spec.

You can set up your airport in your network in AP mode, just make sure you turn off the 2.4 on the airport as it might cause interference with the 2.4 on the duma.

But you can still get the 5g speeds your looking for.

My setup is modem > duma > netgear in AP mode

But just make sure your console and laptop you use with your duma is plugged into the duma so you can use it's features.

Thanks for your input but I am planning on plugging my netduma into my extreme, not the other way around. Will this hinder the netduma's functionality?

Meaning my setup would be Modem>airport>netduma>Xbox

You should be able to do that if you wish. You would need to put the duma in the airports DMZ (if it has one) so you can achieve an open NAT on the xbox. The congestion control would not work correctly in this setup though.

Would definitely recommend the above setup from fuzzy
