Ok, so it only activates while the PS5 is actively doing something. Wouldn't it be better to just keep it on all the time while the PS5/gaming system or whatever is on, kind of like what the XR450/500 has? I was on the XR450 before moving to the R3 and I was thinking that there wouldn't be so many differences in how the OS worked.

Is there a way to make it so that SmartBOOST activates and stays on the entire time my PS5 is on? I've noticed that it only turns on when I'm playing a game, like Call of Duty, when I start a multiplayer or warzone match but turns off as soon as it's finished.

I'm using Polygon mode for my geofencing, the Geo-Filter is already enabled and setup before even turning the PS5 on and I am not leaving my PS5 on standby mode, I turn it off every time. I'll start it up and it will be fine, the ping will pretty much be the same but all of a sudden I'll notice that I'm starting to lag a bit. When I check the Geo-Filter, it will show that I have somehow connected to a server in Chicago, halfway across the United States. I have denied 50 now at this point, as of the time of this writing, though this only seemed to start since the last update prior to this most recent one. I have never connected to a server in chicago before either. I have had the same geofencing polygon shape for as long as I have had this, I purchased the day it came out, and I had the 450/500 router before this.

I am in the NW of the US and I have my own created filters that I've shaped around where I want. Ever since the last update and still through this update, I am still connecting to servers in Chicago, Illinois. Steady-ping and Geo-latency are off, ping-assist is at 0, strict mode is on, fast search is off. I've tried everything that I have read on here and on Google but it still happens. I really wish there was a way to filter-block areas that you don't want, like in my case, I wish I could draw a square around Illinois for a filter to block everything from that area no matter what.

I don't think you are getting what I am saying. I just like how the XR-500 handles it.

I'm not talking about changing a device specific MAC address. I'm talking about changing the MAC address of one device to the MAC address of another device. I number them so I can keep track of them. Everytime I have to do a system reset, I have to put everything in from scratch because for some reason it's not possible for the router to remember any settings, it always has to be a complete system wipe. They router also sometimes adds names to devices by default so by numbering them, I can keep better track of what devices are on when or if I was the one who added it. It becomes really handy if you have kids and they have devices they use.
-
My devices are numbered and I have them in numerical order to match their name on the devices list so I just have to find the number. I have devices that I no longer use. I would really like it if I could just change the MAC address to match the new device I want to add instead of having to delete it, adding the new device which puts it at the end, and then going through and having to adjust all of the DHCP numbers. It would be amazing if they could add the option to just rearrange the list order. Some people live in chaos and others, like myself, live in order and control, which is why I bought this. It's just a suggestion brought up out of frustration.
-
Why can't I edit a reserved IP's MAC address? Also, why can't I rearrange my reserved IPs list? These seem like they should have been available from day one and yet here we are and still nothing. I like my reserved IPs in order to make it easy to find and especially without being able to edit the MAC address, like you could on the XR-500, it is a mess and is really frustrating. Is there anything in the works for either or both of these?

Ever since the update to .41 I have noticed that the Geo-Filter will often time-out where it doesn't show anything or the opposite where it will continue to show a connection that has since been disconnected, even after connecting to a different one or even shutting off the game completely.

Different MTU numbers are for different kinds of connections. 1492 is specifically for those who are using PPPOE connections. That is what I use, I forgot what other numbers may be used for but you need to check with your internet provider to see what connection you use and then just google the answer from there.

For the PS5, before restarting the R3, Go to Network>Connection Status>Test internet connection. For some reason I am having to do this to get the two talking to each other. The R3 shows my PS5 on, it's connected via ethernet, yet testing the internet connection somehow gets me online and connected. As said before, there is no advantage of a static internet address when setting up the PS5 so if things aren't working, it's best to leave settings as default and slowly try changing the settings one by one.

I deleted everything and re-setup everything while console is off and it did it again. I live in the Northwest United States and it was trying to connect me to a server in Georgia, the Southeast United States. I forgot to mention this but, like all of the others, the server showed a checkmark as if I had already granted it permission. This marks the 19th time that I have had to block a server somewhere around the world that already showed a checkmark as if I had already accepted it where it was trying to connect me to a game from that area. When setting up the device, I have tried both recommended filtering for the game and also choose filtering manually and it has happened on both. The description is pretty vague about the difference between them and I haven't seen any discernible difference between them either.

I can't remember if it was in game or not, I'm pretty sure my console was on though. It doesn't happen often but yesterday it connected me to a server in South America, Brazil I believe. I was surprised to only see 120ms ping though. I will try doing everything over while my console is off. Thank you.

high ping and random lag and filter not working
White_Mamba replied to ryekye's topic in Netduma R3 Support
From what I can tell, the Geo-Latency would be more for those trying to get servers that are kind of far away or on other continents or are searching with no Geo-Filter boundaries set as a way to keep the game from kicking people out of the lobby in case their ping went too high or something. So if you are looking for servers within +/-500 miles, you don't need it. Steady Ping will give you the look of playing at a higher ping but like it says, it creates a buffer zone for your ping but if you have a bad connection, that zone can be in flux from game to game and is generally for those who have higher that 50ms ping, or something like that. I already get low ping so when I use steady ping, it is searching for lobbies with that higher ping but then I find that I get into lobbies with higher ping players and sometimes the ping breaks the buffer zone. Playing without it, I see some occasional ping spikes but the games I'm in are played at my lower ping so the spike doesn't end up being that noticeable. The settings are to help everybody no matter where they live but not everybody needs to use all of the settings. If you are really good at the game and you keep getting into really competitive lobbies, like in COD when matching you to a lobby, it cares more about your skill during the last several games than it does the connection so the better the players in the lobby, the higher the ping, or so it seems. I'm sure somebody could have said it better and shorter so if you get this far and are confused, just ignore this. -
My concern that I originally came here for was that I still feel like I'm having to refresh the page quite often to get the Geo-Filter to work, or at least update what it is doing. After I finish a game and back out of the matchmaking to do something, it often gets stuck on showing the connection from the previous game or it won't show anything until I refresh. Also, I'm still finding that every other couple days or so it will connect me to a game on a server that is outside the set limits I have set and often on the east coast whereas I live in the northwest (United States). Also, when I initially play, I connect to the first game fine but then it can take quite awhile to start connecting to the game servers and getting me in lobbies to play.

I didn't come here for this but since I use PPPOE and have no issues with the R3, those who have issues may need to check how they have things configured. MTU should be 1492, the R3 should be put in a static route and also in DMZ on the modem, the modem should be used as nothing but a gateway turning off DHCP allocation and WIFI and having the R3 handle all DHCP allocations and internet directions, for connection type the WAN on the R3 should be set to static route using the modem's IP address as the gateway and the IP address that the R3 has on the modem as the IP address which should be the same as the WAN IP and the netmask should be 255.255.255.0, make sure the DNS on both modem and R3 are set to something reliable like Google's (which I use) or Cloudflare. V4.0.41 did a good job a creating stability and increasing speed. Netduma is doing something that no other company is so you have to be patient, things will only continue to improve.

I have been having this same for a little while now. I think the wait times have only gotten worse since Sony's latest PS5 firmware update which blocks the Cronus Zen from working at all. It must have been more widely used than I thought.

Here you go. R3 System Logs for 1-22-24.txt
-
It seemed to connect today within 2-3 minutes. Wifi actually takes longer to connect but other than the time it takes, nothing is different. I didn't get a look at the time I started my PS5 and the time it connected though. I do kind of like that the system logs are kind of hidden so that people are looking at them and freaking out and filling the forum up with needless worries. I'm just used to the XR450 which connected instantaneously.
-
If it pops up as showing me as being offline, then yes it does but it takes more like 2-3 minutes. If there is no indicator showing next to my profile, then nothing happens until I try to go in and play the game.
-
When I go into the game and get the message, it just remains as being inactive. When I back out to the main screen, it then shows the green dot next to my profile picture. I have to close the game completely and re-start it up and it works fine. Sometimes it will show the dot like I'm offline and sometimes there isn't a dot at all. The network connection check never fails. When it shows as me being offline, sometimes a internet connection check will fix it and sometimes I have to log into the game and back out. If there is not dot showing, the network check still works but I have to log into the game and go back and close the game for it to show my green dot and for the game to work. Basically, it's like my PS5 is either not recognizing the internet or the R3 is not recognizing the PS5 for some reason.
-
It already has one.
-
I turn if off completely each time.

Ever since the update to v4.0.23 my PS5 isn't connecting to the internet right away. It is connected via LAN cable and still when I turn it on, it shows my status as invisible and then the status disappears. I do a connection test. which works without an issue every time but when I go to get on a game, it says that I can't connect and I need to connect to the internet. When I back out and close the game, it then shows me as online with the green dot and then it allows me to log-in. I am not able to just log-in and have downloads start going immediately, I have to do several steps first. I've never encountered anything like this before. The device manager shows that my PS5 is connected. Maybe this has to do with SmartBoost or something?
