NEW XR700 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.363
Proud R3 Owner replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Why would it be a bug if I can get 800Mbps download on a PC on lan with 350Mbps download from another PC on lan with QoS disabled and my ISP is giving me ~1200Mbps? I don't see anywhere near that with my QoS enabled as my sliders are set to 53/95 as per ping optimizer. I did get a -12ms in ping though which is what I'm after. Ping optimizer tests indicate I'm getting about 30ms without optimization. I've set my geofilter up in the middle of the ocean with ping assist at 40. I'm seeing game servers at 19-30ms now instead of ~50-70ms. If that's a bug, I'll take it. If I need max throughput I'll just disable QoS and I'll get all the bandwidth my ISP dishes out. I'd still like to utilize that extra 200Mbps with QoS enabled, but I'm not gonna stress about it. -

R3 would be a beast - octacore, 2GB ram, 1GB flash, tri-band (not 801.11ad though WiFi 6 def), 8 detachable high gain antenna, smart connect/ mesh, zero wait dfs, airtime fairness, 8 port gigabit lan, 1 2.5Gb wan with an sfp port (also able to assign as wan). Slap some fans on the CPU/vrm and maybe have the feet longer with rubber bottoms and an exhaust fan pushing air out. Boom. DumaOS 4.0. MAYBE an RGB badge on the top. You know you'd buy one.- 61 replies

NEW XR700 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.363
Proud R3 Owner replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
You won't see over 1Gbps over the rj45 wan or the lan ports. If your modem uses a 2.5Gb port and you're using sfp for your wan, then you'll see a combined throughput >1Gbps IF you're not using QoS. QoS can only use 1Gbps as a soft cap for some reason so if that's on that's your total throughput limit. Don't forget total throughput is shared over all the lan ports and wireless. -

I've done that, with QoS off you can get over 1Gbps total throughput on 2 or more devices using separate lan ports. I'd really like to see the 1Gbps cap on QoS taken out so we can set our QoS speeds to what we actually get. I get closer to 1.2Gbps with my 8611 and sfp+ but since I like the QoS features I'll never see it. -

That ping tho 👀 Wish I could reach single digits in Ookla. Best I can get is ~14ms. Sfp+ is OP AF. -
@Netduma Fraser No problem. I have to give credit where is due. This feels like a very refined piece of work. I haven't had any errors pop-ups, no really big issues that I can tell (other than the hard reset) and the UI seems responsive and full of useful tools that work. A+ work, give my gratitude to the devs - it definitely feels like a top tier gaming router. Netgear would be in the wrong if they didn't release this as official imho.

Oh no, the app works great and it's exactly how you described it. It's very much an integral part of 3.3. I was talking about the hard reset of the physical unit itself after installing 3.3 and then doing a soft reset through the gui. I even went the extra step and flashed 3.3 through tftp then tried a hard reset but that didn't work either.

@Netduma Fraser If I'm looking at this right, I can turn adblocker on or off at the device level?

NEW XR700 BETA FIRMWARE: 3.3.363
Proud R3 Owner replied to Netduma Lew's topic in NETGEAR Nighthawk Support (XR range)
Same. Some lucky people on my ISP also got mid split and we're able to get 8 channels and an ofdm. Nowhere near me but I've seen big rolls of fiber around my area. I'd ditch my 8611 for an ONT in a heartbeat to get 1Gbps symmetrical speeds. Great thing about the xr700 and what really sold me was the sfp+ port. Our router won't bottleneck for a long long time lol. Oh yeah and DumaOS...and seriously buff internals... Etc etc.. -

I use the sfp+ port as well and yes it does get a bit toasty. That being said I get almost 1.2Gbps down with it instead of about 950 on the gigabit WAN. I also use the Motorola MB8611 with the 2.5Gbps port so my ISP is the bottleneck there. I have to say I'm jealous of your ISP as I only get 35Mbps up. Wish they'd change nodes to a mid split so I could get 1000/100. Anyway I've been playing with the mobile app and I love the ping optimizer. Absolutely brilliant. It's so sad we probably won't see any newer software for the xr700...BUT... that being said if NetDuma ever puts out an absolute monster of big buff hardware into a router along with newer tech and great aesthetic appeal... TAKE MY MONEY 💰💰💰💰💰 -
@Netduma Fraser Just tried hard reset and it's not working. I told you I'd try it over the weekend but I kinda got busy. It did look like it wanted to where the power light would blink with the LAN lights - Then all the lights went off (rebooting I assume) - Then LAN lights blinking with the power light steady blinking until solid and everything is the same (No WiFi as I have it disabled so I was really looking for those lights when I reset). Hope this helps bud.

I think they're throwing us a bone with this "early access" honestly. The way it sounds this will probably be the last firmware netduma puts out for the xr700 so keep that .img file! I for one am glad to at least see 3.3 on this thing. That being said it would be nice of Netgear to at least make it official and keep security updates going for it even if this will be the latest version of DumaOS. -

That's strange since my parents have my old Netgear X4S R7800 and it still gets updates. 🤷♂️ -

Why would this possibly never come out as an official Netgear firmware? -
So what new goodies should we expect today?

Yeah I noticed a lot of people using pi-hole had issues with search history and searching for content on YouTube itself. Most of those issues were resolved by whitelisting DoubleClick.net but that's also bad news since that's one of the ones you'd like to block without a doubt. The domains I posted as whitelisted were labeled ads on the adblocker so none of those are trackers. Also, those are the only domains whitelisted, so I can leave all the others like Netflix and Roku blocked with full functionally. (The way it should be imho) you should be able to block ads and trackers without losing functionally but you know.... Google.... 🤷♂️
-
Ok so I got it to work with as little whitelisted domains as possible. This is what I added to the domain list: tpc.googlesyndication.com pagead2.googlesyndication.com ade.googlesyndication.com googleads.g.doubleclick.net static.doubleclick.net I hope this helps if anyone bumps into this issue again. On a side note - it would be a nice feature if you could whitelist by device so like my rokuTV's could have these domains whitelisted but other things like phones and computers etc would still keep them blocked. Just food for thought. Thanks for all your help so far and thanks for working so hard for us Fraser!
-
Looking at the blocked log for multiple RokuTV's in the house the most I get is: scribe.logs.roku.com b.scorecardresearch.com ssl.google-analytics.com pubads.g.doubleclick.net static.doubleclick.net I'm not exactly sure which one is the culprit but I have my assumptions about google (obviously) I don't think scribe logs from roku would be the issue honestly but everything "doubleclick.net" is evil sooooo... Not sure if I'd even want to whitelist those ones. I'm wondering do you guys get your lists from Pi-Hole or do you compile your own?
-
Ok so I've added everything mentioned, even *. YouTube.com and the issue still remains. All RokuTV YouTube channels freeze with a buffering circle or black screen.
-
I wonder if the system would recognize something like *.YouTube.com
-
Adding YouTube.com to the whitelist domain did not fix the issue.
-
The APs themselves are restricted to the QoS restrictions. If I set it to 100 and do a speed test on 2 devices, the sum of both devices are about equal to the total of the restriction (i.e sliders set to 100 - one device gets 70 and the other gets 30) I will whitelist YouTube.com as a domain and see how that works out. I'll post results of that and a hard reset later this weekend.
-
It's not the case. I have 2 separate routers (ax11000 and C5400X) as my AP's with the wifi disabled on the XR700. Connecting to these AP's and doing some stress testing of the wifi (just downloads of large files really) I notice that the hardwired AP's are being subject to the QoS. After that test I decided to set the QoS slider for download to a stupid low number something like 50Mbps and sure enough my speedtest (Even though I was connected at 433Mbps) would only see 50Mbps on the speedtest (Ookla). As for the seperate icons on the Geo map, I can understand that honestly if people were expecting to see which server was being used by which client. However, removing and adding, re-removing and re-adding devices does get pretty old after a while. We don't usually ever use every single gaming device at the same time but also I don't really look for what server I'm using either as I use geo mainly to simply ping the servers used to deter lag spikes. I'm going to play with the new features a bit more then I'll try to do a hard reset over the weekend. On a side note - I'm noticing the Youtube channel on my Roku TV's have a buffering/freeze issue once I enabled the Adblocker. I did add the default list (https://netduma.com/adblocker-lists/default-list.txt) even though the 2 uneditable lists (Ads and Tracking) were already there. I don't know if I have doubled entries by doing this as I saw this method for the XR1000 that had no entries.

I noticed when installing the new FW, hard reset doesn't work. You have to go into the gui and software reset. Also the BRS setup wizard is still painfully slow. After BRS wizard and setting everything up - going back into the DumaOS apps still gives you the popup for the tour. The restart seems to take longer but maybe that's a good thing - giving the router longer to load up the Rapps. All in all it seems like a pretty solid piece of firmware. I especially appreciate you all willing to throw us XR700 people out here a bone and give us an early access to this. The pages load quickly and I haven't had any issues so far. I would just suggest not capping the number of devices in Geofilter, not capping the download/upload speeds to 1000Mbps in QoS and maybe adding a QoS Exempt device like an AP on the Devices App so our wired Access Points aren't capped at what we set QoS speed sliders to.
