Random disconnects with new firmware
Proud R3 Owner replied to Achilles's topic in Netduma R3 Support
No not on the R3 but ipv6 from the ISP are usually icmp filtered so it's pretty garbage anyway. I'm my opinion it's not worth having until ISPs can figure a better way to not filter icmp as much as ip6 is heavily reliant on it. -
So let's say I'm playing pubg, I normally get ~40-60ms. Sometimes I get spikes to 80-90 which I'm assuming is server related. When I put the steady ping at let's say 70ms my in game ping is steady around 100ms. I thought in expert mode you were supposed to set the ping you're expecting to get. Is it like that or are you setting the buffer size?
-
Honestly I thought CC helped more with jitter than steady ping, I could be wrong there. I know with my tp-link router I was ~1 jitter but with the R3 I usually get ~3. I do like the idea of having a more stable latency vs lower latency but that buffer just doesn't cut it for bigger spikes which like I said before I believe it's game server load related.

Ipv6 is garbage. -
I've used it but I have to say when gaming I can't really tell if it's beneficial or not. It raises your ping but not enough to absorb real spikes. Honestly I think a lot of those are game server related as I get A+ (0/0) from waveform with my Internet speed/CC settings. I do like the idea I just think the default should be a little higher and as for expert mode when I raise the value to a ping I would expect a spike to achieve (i.e. 60-70ms) my latency would literally be in the 100ms area. When it's off my pings are in the 30-60ms range depending on game.

@Netduma Jack B No not gaming just hanging out watching TV with the younger kids while the older boys were at work (I'm on vacation for the 4th). I don't have anything in geo as we don't really use it honestly. We don't use torrent. My speeds to the modem are about 1200 down and 42 up. As you'd imagine speeds on the R3 are about 900 down and 40 up. I do have my Internet speed set to 800 and 30 with CC set to 75% on both. I don't use geo or steady ping, I've stopped using STP, and don't use adblock. I have my DHCP lease set to 10k. -

No I know I didn't want you to think I was criticizing you either. And I'm 43 so I guess I shouldn't say I'm old (even though some days I feel it). 😆 -

And that's ok. I'd just rather spend my free time with my family wether it be gaming, watching a movie, going out or just playing in the yard or going in the pool. I've personally just grown past the tinkering stage of my life and just would prefer something just work well with good appliances straight out of the box so I can go back to enjoying my family or if I'm at work they can at least enjoy fast stable Internet that prioritizes different activities over others. Nothing against your thirst for knowledge or desire to tinker with things to make them exactly what you want. I'd just rather have that in a convenient unit to just setup and leave it. -

Honestly I've used pfSense (Open BSD),ddwrt, etc. I really enjoyed the GUI and appliances that duma has with the xr700. If they ported an x86 version to sell or rent licenses I might actually consider it. The reason I like the idea of a pre-built buff router is because I don't have the free time anymore to tinker like I used to. Sure I could go into my mx Linux distro and compile a version of openwrt for the xr700 but I just don't have it in me anymore. I'm old now and I just want something to open, set up, and walk away with no issues. -
Random disconnects with new firmware

Just had a disconnect at ~11:30am. Here's some logs. Using the Archer AX11000 until the disconnects can be resolved. Sorry but we need to have stable internet. R3 logs.txt Edit: just wanted to add I was able to connect to the Wi-Fi of the R3 and look at the logs off the app. I was not able to download them though, it wouldn't do anything when I pressed download logs. Also I did have Internet for a little while on the R3 but eventually that stopped as well. I got on my laptop and was able to connect to the R3 but it would randomly disconnect from the WiFi. I was able to snag the cgi-bin logs. Also I noticed in the logs the timestamps were wrong. I did have my timezone set correctly in settings. -

Uptime 3 days and still going with DHCP lease time set to 10k and adblock off. -

I think you underestimate the market for such a router. I'm not talking about sfp ports, just a good size (2.5Gb) WAN and more LAN ports for those who have more than 4 wired devices. Also the beefier hardware in CPU, flash and ram would make the dumaOS sing I know it. Gaming routers aren't a niche anymore. Those of us who are older grew up playing games and still do. Those who don't have kids who do. Also maybe the reason some shy away from the R3 could be because of a lack in these hardware features. Anyway, maybe make a few units, say 100, as maybe an upgrade like a R3 pro and if that sell fast it'll give you an idea of how much of a market there is for them. Yes I get it that Netgear and Asus and tp-link have a much bigger budget...BUT... Those pricey routers sell. If they didn't they wouldn't be on the market. Anyway maybe make a poll and ask your community how many would purchase a router with these specs and at whatever price point you think would be a fair profit. The results may surprise you and the rest of the team. -

I mean the tp-link archer ax11000 has decent hardware, if you could throw dumaos on it and keep it around the same price point $300-$400 I'm sure a lot of people would eat it up! And yeah $800 is pretty steep but I'm trying to sell the idea here lol. -
1x 2.5Gb WAN, 8x gigabit LAN ports, tri-band Wi-Fi, 1.8Ghz quad core CPU, 512MB flash, 1GB RAM. Price point of $800 per unit. Just make sure everything works this time before releasing it onto the market. Maybe since you're using FOSS/FLOSS you can add an app depot so users can add/remove the apps they want as well (i.e. adblock, antivirus, IPS, geo, cc, smart boost, etc.)

Random disconnects with new firmware
Proud R3 Owner replied to Achilles's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Unfortunately due to the number of wired devices and their locations, I cannot. I'd suggest making the R4 with a 2.5Gb WAN port and 8 LAN ports. Anyway, I do have the Wi-Fi enabled (on separate ssid) so I can maybe help out with logs. However, I keep getting this spammed in my logs: daemon.err cli.lua[4129]: wl: wl driver adapter not found I don't see anything unusual with the CPU or memory usage. Anyway I hope we can get this disconnection issue resolved. Honestly this is the only issue I have with the R3. Yes I do wish it had beefier hardware and a better WAN port/more LAN ports but for what it is, if it could stay working, I wouldn't have any issues at all. -

Connection seems sus. Here's some logs, I see some weird looking stuff in there honestly. R3_2024-06-30T05_49_31.396Z_logs.txt -
Random disconnects with new firmware

Just had a disconnect. Went on my laptop with static IP, couldn't load the cgi-bin/logs page or anything else. Unplugged and replugged in the switch connected to the R3 and still could not access. Uptime was probably just around 24 hours on the newest fw. -
Random disconnects with new firmware
Proud R3 Owner replied to Achilles's topic in Netduma R3 Support
I have my modem (MB8611) connected directly to the R3. Port 1 of the R3 goes to port 1 of an 8 port TP-Link unmanaged switch. Ports 3 and 4 of the R3 go directly to the Wan Port of 2 TP-Link Archer AX11000's set to AP mode (nothing plugged into these, they're standalone AP's only). From the 8 port TP-Link switch (which is full, no un-used ports) there are 6 other switches plugged in (3 5-port unmanaged and 3 8-port unmanaged) and one port goes directly to my gaming PC (heheh). Hardwired we have 2 gaming PC's, 3 Roku TV's, an Android TV, 3 PS5's, 1 PS4, 1 Xbox One and 1 Xbox series X. Wireless we have 3 smaller Roku TV's, 3 work laptops, 1 Linux transformer book, 1 Chromebook/Retro gaming (batocera), 4 tablets (3 android and 1 apple iPad Air), 1 Nintendo switch, 4 android phones and a Roomba robot vacuum. I'm sure all the consoles do the sleep/wake thing along with the RokuTV's and the robot vacuum. Not too sure about the tablets, maybe they do something similar as well? Anyway I hope this helps. Happy hunting as usual!! (dev joke) -

Wow now that I see the configs of others I too use this config. Modem (mb8611) > R3 > switch > switch/dev > AX11000 AP > AX11000 AP I do use STP js. -
Random disconnects with new firmware
Proud R3 Owner replied to Achilles's topic in Netduma R3 Support
I did wake up on Friday to no Internet in the house. I don't use the R3 Wi-Fi as the signal is very weak, so I use 2 older ax11000 routers in AP mode for my wireless needs. Unfortunately the disconnects are random for me as I had a drop out in the early evening on Saturday. I do have 4 devices using assigned IPs (2 APs and 2 laptops) but only the APs have the IP static in the device settings, the laptops pull their IP automatically from the router. The thing for me is when I look at the logs I'm getting flooded by DHCP requests from the APs unless I set the IP static through the device settings. I don't use ip6 on WAN/LAN but I do use a lot of features the router has (smart boost, ping stabilizer, adblock, etc ) and security for port scans is enabled as well as STP. Not sure why the more random disconnects happen but I know there's an issue with dhcp as when I've attached these APs to other routers and not set static everything runs well until I disconnect it to try the R3. -

I can say I don't even get a day uptime unless I set my AP's with a local static IP through the devices themselves. Once I do I can get the R3 to last a few days before it disconnects. Devs really need to fix DHCP, never really heard of a router requiring you to assign static IP through your devices to keep the router stable before. -
Geo-Filter problem Rainbow Six Siege

Turn off Geo-Latency. It will connect you to servers outside of your filter. -
Where is the new firmware? 4 Months is too long.
Proud R3 Owner replied to Freshjive's topic in Netduma R3 Support
So you did a hard reset. That's nice, I did that when I installed a fresh copy of fw. You don't have to reset multiple times once you've done it after a fw upgrade. Simply restarting will reset the cache but from the logs the R3 does that itself every so often anyway. -

Actually if you're behind an IPS/IDS router and don't use DMZ to put your R3 in then you'll run into issues like double NAT. Trust me, I also do my "due diligence". Anyway as I've mentioned before I've also set it up as standalone, only connected to my cable modem (which means coax, not an ont device) and still have had these random disconnects. -

I've set it up both ways, behind a tp-link archer ax11000 for the homeshield in DMZ and stand alone behind only my Motorola MB8611 cable modem. Both ways I randomly get disconnects and the only way to resolve it is with a hard reboot (little button in the back of the unit).
