I did use the advanced function, though couldn’t get that to work either, it was really strange, because I left it for about an hour, went back to it..... (ah epiphany) I did download new config files, that explains it, didn’t know that they would be changed, though now thinking about it its kind of obvious. Though HMA still doesn’t work, and just seen a thing on Flashrouters.com "Please note: HMA no longer allows router based integration, please visit our top recommended VPNs.”” Is this right, they never mentioned it, I have just renewed with them too. All the help files still list the same repository address for the config files, though when I go to the address it just says failed. Hope this isn’t the case, or if it is this info maybe useful to other users.I have raised a support ticket with them so will update when they get back to me. They owe me a refund!

I have a pureVPN, and a HMA VPN account that I use on the R2, both were working on Wednesday (26/02/2023), none of them work today? both accounts are still active, and I changed nothing. I have rebooted and factory reset, to see if that fixes the problem. It didn’t. Has something changed?

Have you fixed this, as there are less servers in the basic list, and they all seem to work now? That’s fast if you have!
-
Well it didn’t connect, said it was Connecting, and the log was constantly being added to. I used Snagit on the Mac and it captures everything, though when I was trying to send the info to the PureVPN team I was on my other PC and I don’t have Snagit there. Just thought there was a button or method that would have made that process easier. Its not a major issue. So I have just finished sending my feedback to PureVPN and thought it may be a good idea to include you guys in too. It would be good to know what servers can be used through the basic setting, and advanced for that matter, because trial and error is a bit of a pain in the neck. Have you and PureVPN/HMA collaborated on this, or is this something you have just implemented? I’m not trying to point the finger, just interested, and if it helps as I use these two VPN’s I will put together a spreadsheet on what works, and share it with you/PureVPN/HMA, if that sounds OK. I use the VPN feature more and more through Dumaos, its just smart, with the option to include devices, and exclude other devices/services is brilliant, so this is something that I think, should be better implemented and well documented (no disrespect intended). I really aren’t trying to give you a boat load of work to do, and do really appreciate your help.

So here is a thing:- I went to set this up so that I could send you the info, and managed to get it to work. Though I had to only pick the main country that is listed as a city server e.g. UK not one of the city servers also in the list? How confusing is this? Still interested in if there is an easy way to capture the logs, because that was just annoying! I am going to give a shout out to Snagit, without which I would have went mad!!

Hey Fraser, I will upload the info you are asking for. Is there an easy way to capture the log file, because it continually updates, and cancels the highlight, you don’t even have time to Ctrl+c to capture it, also the log instantly disappears when you disable it?

Does PureVPN actually work though, I can’t get it to, even the advanced option doesn’t seem to work for me, am I missing something, those support feels at PureVPN want to. take over my machine to sort out the problem (I don’t think that’s happening). The logs seem to indicate that there is no connection using the info given. I know this is “off topic” but it is a feature within Dumaos so any help would be appreciated.

So should Pure VPN just work, when I talked to the support guy earlier, it didn’t feel helpful, and I have been redirected to their tier 3 support. Though before he sent me there he mentioned something about :- Try multi ports: UDP: 5500 - 55000 TCP: 80, 5500 - 55000 Didn’t say where, or why, my networking prowess isn’t that good, so I do understand some things, but most of the time you have to take me by the hand. can anyone tell me where he may have been going with this?

I have and do use HideMyAss, it’s relatively good, just trying out PureVPN, though can’t tell you if its any good, because I want to use it through the R2 or XR700 and it doesn’t seem to work through the basic VPN method, and I would really like that to work. So if you are just wanting to do general internet access and would prefer the snoopers not to bother you, they all seem much of a muchness to me. Hidemyass does all the things I need to it to, for every day internet security!

Hey Liam, I had a bit of spare time to try out the R2, here’s the strange thing, I factory reset again and, Quo’s is now working as expected. I decided to give the R2 a run ou because I can’t get the heat map on the XR700, it would be really nice to have it on the XR700 (Wink), I know Fraser said "Once the 500 is done we'll be able to get it sorted on the 700!”. I just wonder how long it will be. p.s. BT told me FTTP to my property will be in 2026, and the lady said “So it’s not FUTILE!”. Just thought I would keep you posted.
-
Hey Fraser, That’s great to hear and thank you for the super fast reply. I wonder where I could post the thing about FTTP on a forum that BT have interests in, so that I could get a similarly fast reply!!

I sort of promised Liam that I would get back to him, though only managed to factory reset the R2, and stayed using the XR700, I have consigned the R2 to emergency standby Router status. The XR700 is being very well behaved. I would really like to see the new firmware on the XR700 too, though I have thought about the buying an XR1000, though I am bothered, about the cost and if will deliver more than what I have at the moment. I think I am just trying to find the ultimate router that delivers the impossible. I am in search of the router equivalent of the alchemist stone. And whilst this is a futile task, it is more likely than BT giving me FTTP! p.s. how likely is it that we will see DumaOs 3.2 for the XR700?
-
Hi Liam I could, though I thought that this should just work (out of the box), I am bothered that I spend some time, trying things that ultimately don’t resolve the issue, also I have had this issue for some time, and just thought it was other factors i.e. ISP issues, distance form server, cheats etc. I am currently using my XR700, and the difference is amazing. All the games I play are better to play, and to be honest I was sick of getting a 0.2 K/D. I am going to factory reset the R2 (again) and connect just my PC, then run the tests again. I’ll let you know what happens.

Sorry about this: I have just switched to the X700 (XR700 V1.0.1.34_Dumaos3.0_6) Ping is noticeably different, specifically during upload and download. During upload the ping is 4 times higher than the idle ping, and download is double the idle ping without QOS, with QOS on the XR700, the upload and download pings are the same or slightly lower than the idle ping. The R2 results were: During upload the ping is 4 times higher than the idle ping, and download is double the idle ping without QOS. Enabling QOS made no difference, the results were exactly the same as with QOS disabled on the R2. So having QOS enabled on the R2 appears to have no effect on ping on the R2, whereas it has a massive effect on the XR700. Is my R2 broken, or just lacking the poke of the XR700.

I have 5 gaming devices, there is only me who uses them, and they are rarely on at the same time, it is difficult to play 2 at once. So QOS still allocates them a share of the internet pie, is there a way to stop that? Also QOS sets allocation of data for applications (10 of them?). None of which have I ever used (eg VOIP), there doesn’t appear to be a way to remove any of those, and moving the sliders is a bit of a pain. I have just ran a couple of ping tests and they appeared similar with and without QOS.
-
Hi Fraser, thanks again for your rapid reply. I have knocked off QOS via the congestion control menu. I have a dedicated internet (70Mb/s down and 20 Mb/s up) for gaming, and it only feeds my gaming devices, and I only typically use one at a time, so I think you are right. I just wanted to check that I wasn’t missing something. Also the difference isn’t marginal, it is significant. Nowhere I have I seen anything regarding knocking QOS off, if your system doesn’t need it. In fact the opposite is true. In the congestion control options it states that it is not advised to knock it off.
-
I get better hit detection in games when I knock off QOS. This is most noticeable in Destiny 2, though is evident in other games like COD. I have ran several test over multiple days, and at different times of the day. With QOS on, there are times that I can’t get a kill, as soon as I knock it off, the gameplay is much better. My KD improves vastly, and the game plays and feels better. Is this how it's supposed to be?

When I have ad blocker on web sites just wont load (Far too many to mention), Logitech's website takes 5 minutes to load. When I stop ad blocker and load Logitech's website there really doesn't appear to be any ads, though I did knock of tracking too, and that could be the thing. I should have thought there may be a down side, when I installed the new firmware (R2 3.2.453) and was given the option to add ad blocker, though never gave it a second thought. Should it really have such a massive affect?
