Is the save button not working and then the value gets wiped or you're testing the MTU and it doesn't appear to have changed?

Most likely he is on PPPoE connection. 
The new firmware prevents any changes in Wan, advanced settings when on PPPoE.

Workaround: change your connection to DHCP, then in advanced settings make your adjustments, save it. Then change back to PPPoE.
