Good morning Frazer and team.

I constantly experience Major lag spikes and internet dropping out of no where when there is only 

• 4 devices connected to the router 

• internet disconnects 

• packet loss. (in game tested)

I have a 50mb down 25 up  and it is the main router

I used congestion control 75% 90% 100% 80% always on and it does not get better and many laggy videos.

But I get my full 50mbs.

  • What is the model of the modem/router the R3 is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the R3? E.g R3 in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode
  • Are ALL devices connected to the R3?
  • Have you entered those speeds into the router?
  • How have you setup SmartBOOST?
  • What game are you playing?
  • What platform are you playing on and how is it connected, via ethernet or WiFi?
  • How have you setup the Geo-Filter?
  • What firmware version are you on?

•PPPoE

•yes all devices are connected 

• yes entered the speeds into the router

• Valorant

•xbox ethernet

• geo filter is set up with strict mode no ping assist steady ping simple mode

•.540

DPI is enabled, BI is not enabled as it causes ping issues

If you set it up like that yes but this is set up with the PPPoE setting

Are you able to have an ISP modem/router handle PPPoE instead? As that is likely the issue, it's something we're aware of and looking into

Hey frazer 

I tried and it is very unstable I also am now experiencing higher ping and many disconnects

Try disabling the strict mode on your Geo-Filter and Ping Assist for a bit to see if those are actually causing the ping spikes. Sometimes having the filters dialed in too tight can lead to packet loss. It is also worth checking your Congestion Control settings to make sure your Bandwidth Allocation isn't throttling your gaming traffic too much. If things smooth out with the filters off, try slowly expanding your Geo-Filter radius until you find that sweet spot between low latency and a stable connection.

No doubt abt it I did this but now my isp says there is no problem or issues on their side and I am getting a constant 300 to 250 ping

Did you put the R3 in its DMZ and set that IP as static on the modem? Also ensuring ALL devices are connected to the R3?

No I can't use the ISP router as it does not want to connect to the internet anymore.

also how long does these "unknown" tests run?

I would say that could well be linked to the issue you're experiencing currently, if their own router is unable to connect to the internet then there may be some weird instability that needs to be resolved first. It could also be they're expecting to see the ISP router on the network but aren't, in some cases setting the router to use the ISP router MAC address may help.

What do you mean unknown tests? That'll be some traffic we either haven't classified or traffic where the classification has become out of date.

I have reached out these couple of days with my ISP because they say there is nothing wrong on their end, that everything is running fine on their end and that my connection to theirs servers are completely fine and my connection should not be experiencing these issues.

 

okay thank you for clearing that up.

 

At this point I feel like doing a roll back on this update and go back to an older version and see if that clears up everything.

okay thank you for clearing that up.

At this point I feel like doing a roll back on this update and go back to an older version and see if that clears up everything.

If the modem doesn't even connect they definitely should send a tech or a replacement modem for you. They can usually conduct a remote test to the modem also. You can definitely do that and see how you get on - do you get the same issues directly connected to the wall/ONT with the gaming device?

I have a long lan cable that I had  Cat6

I have not experienced this kind of issue since the release of the R3.

It feels like my connection just drops out of no where and then I have a constant ping higher than I should have

But with your gaming device connected to the ethernet cable that normally gives the R3 internet do you experience the same issue?

I did not try that but I had called my isp right now (again) they say everything is fine on their end. (I don't use fiber internet I use satellite internet) they rebooted my satellite and said nothing should interfere with my connection everything looks fine on their end. 

I also downgraded the fimware and I still have this issue and my ping and packetloss increased in game and the xbox is the only device connected to the internet.

That explains it, satellite internet is going to be subject to interference, degradation and fluctuations that fibre for example wouldn't be. This wouldn't usually be noticeable through web browsing for example but for gaming where you rely on latency first and foremost, you're going to notice it. I'm sure if you try what I mentioned previously you'll experience the same issues. Also their characteristics for fine are likely different to your version of fine for gaming.
