Higher Ping in B06 and Warzone since Verdansk update

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Firstly Happy Easter to everyone, I hope you’re having a great time.

Overall super happy with my Netduma R3 compare to my older xr500, I finally got rid of bufferbloat 🥳

Now I was wondering if someone noticed the same, since the Verdansk update my overall pings in Europe are higher then before,  but surprisingly, my connection to Madrid shows now 51ms and before it was 28ms max on the ping heat map. (I live in Portugal so it’s the closest server) searching starts over 41ms, before it was 28ms, i have a 1000mbit/100mbit connection.

I was checking already in the Forum, disabled ping stabilizer (heard that this could fix the issue, once a ms buffer is added, which makes sense), resynced the cloud, restarted router, but so far, no results. I am on the last duma os Version. Thinking about to re-install the firmware to see if it helps when I "reset” everything. Once early in the mornings I barely could find games with Geo filter in Madrid only, I use now nearly whole Europe so Geo filtering in general shouldn’t be an issue as well.

Also, since the newest firmware update, the ping optimiser cannot achieve better results anymore and tells me to not to worry 😅

Look forward to hearing back from you guys soon. In the next days, if nothing helps I will reset the router and post the results of the ping tests if necessary,

cheers legends 💪🏼

I am quite confident this will be due to the Easter holidays - more people playing the game (especially because of the update) so there is more load on the game servers. More people online/at home also means more ISP congestion and so with those two combined this could account for increased ping and decreased game performance. It's unlikely given you've not changed anything why pings would suddenly rise.

Just made some other optimisations and was finally able to get A+ results in the bufferbloat test as well as really good results in ping plotter.

In regards to the ping to the Madrid server, it is still the same with 55ms while Apex, CS2 and Delta Force are pinging with 27ms. So it might be really the Warzone servers.

Just strange that some friends of mine here in Portugal who life way more north are having still a ping of under 25ms when connected to Madrid 😔

To mention that I get my lowest ping when connecting to London server with 45 ms which geographical and distance wise makes absolutely no sense.

I just hope it will get better, with this TTK every ms counts.

It could be ISP congestion or your routing to that particular server. 45ms is probably about right but it does depend on the servers, I get 40ms to Apex Spain servers for example. I suspect it will start to improve this week

Yes, you are definitely right, NOS is very inconsistent in Portugal and is not reliable. Especially when it comes to routing, I think that this is really the issue.

Luckily I have just 6 month left and can change the provider.

And yes, as you said, servers are also improving again. I had yesterday finally a game again with a ping of 27ms even so ping heatmap is still showing 45 ms.

Thank you for everything 🙏

Hello Fraser, hello best Community,

its me again, still searching for a solution once the ping did not get better and everyone around me here in Portugal, mostly using Vodafone have less then half of my ping 🫣 playing Warzone.

I made some research or better tons of research 😅 and found out the following with our AI friend regarding my ISP (NOS is my internet provider):

  • NOS has okay but not amazing international peering.
  • They often route traffic through Madrid (ESPANIX) and then up to Europe.
  • But they don’t have direct premium peering with a lot of gaming servers (like AWS, Azure, Activision).
  • You might sometimes see traffic making small detours even inside Iberia.

On top I heard that the routing close to Lisbon (carnaxide) is also not the best and that is where my traffic is going through before getting redirected to the next destination.

Again, bufferbloat is eliminated, I have no lags but the ping is eating me up 😆

I used TCP optimizer before I had the R3. Can it be that there were some settings which were not set back and could have influence the ping as well?

I could also post the YouTube link which shows all the settings I changed but I don’t want to have the post deleted😅

Additionally once the routing seems to be so bad, should I try exit lag to see if it will improve? I think just geo filtering will not work then anymore.

Well, worst case scenario, 3 more months and I can change the provider.

If nothing changes… we are living in a bigger building with several apartments. If the cable in the wall from the main entrance of the building to our apartment would be slightly damaged, corrosion or something like that. Could this effect the ping that much?

Sorry for the wall of text 😂

cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹

The routing is really done to your ISP, in which case the only workaround you can employ is a VPN like you mentioned so Exitlag in theory should give you better routing to game servers in this scenario.

Damage to cabling can effect the ping yes, it would really depend on what has happened.

Yes,

I think I will have to check these cable.

Exit lag itself gave me a 22ms ping in the menu to Madrid , but ingame, in Warzone I end up

with a 45ms ping. Something from warzone is adding the latency. Maybe are just their poorly optimised servers and they sync better with Vodafone then NOS.

Still using windows 10 cannot be the reason right? 😅

There is processing delay in games, not all games show it as part of their ping calculation but CoD does so that would account for the extra ping you're seeing in game. Nothing to do with Windows all good there

You are answering so fast 😅

this support is from another world.

Yes, I will from now on just disable the latency in the interface… better for my head 😆

Before I was connected to Madrid with geo filter on radius but the ping was still around 45ms.

Now, Geo filter without radius but fencing would finally just connect me to Madrid and Madrid only. Before I had radius enabled it showed Madrid but apparently it was not. Now I constantly have 32 ping with ping stabiliser enabled. Will not touch it anymore 😅

Better is just possible with an other ISP I would say so I am happy. I loosened the radius because I thought anyway in Madrid I have the same ping then in Amsterdam or France.

its insane with how much force the game tries us to put somewhere else due to SBMM/EOMM. It’s ridiculous… at the cost of our connection 😅

thank you Fraser once again 💪🏼

Hello Fraser,

I hope you are doing well.

A little update. I found out that we have a fibre hybrid connection Coax/HFC and no FTTH.

So know we know where all of this instability is coming from. This connections are even used by more then one user. Leading often to internet outages for a longer period of time as well. lol.

End of the story, after a lot of back and forward we were able to cancel our contract and will be able to change our provider, who can provide real FTTH.

Let’s see what is happening then with the ping 😍

have a great day and stay cool, it’s hot out there 😅
