I used my ISP router for testing it (ISP Router as ONT+VLAN < R3 as DHCP) and results are much better: With SmartBoost enabled: With SmartBoost disabled: Even with SmartBoost disabled I'm getting good upload speeds (946Mbps compared to 60Mbps...). And no ping spikes to 500ms. So that's what I was expecting! But with ONT + R3, no with ONT + Router + R3... So it seems you have issues with VLAN... Fuzy
Hi! I asked another beta tester who can also use VLan id behind his ONT just in case. It's "funny " because I don't have the problem behind a manageable switch probably the ONT-R3 VLan id link... (In the meantime if you want to remove your main router, you always have the option of putting a manageable switch with the VLan id option between your ONT and the R3 "if you have one on hand") By the way, what does ping heatmap give in this ONT-ISP router-R3 configuration? byTrunK
byTrunK
UPDATE: I've just changed to another ISP and it's happening exactly the same. 1. ZTE ZXHN F601 as ONT < R3 with VLAN -> Slow internet speeds and high ping with and without SmartBoost 2. 1. ZTE ZXHN F601 as ONT < ZTE Router for VLAN < R3 as DHCP -> Good ping and internet speeds And it's happening with IPV4 and IPV6. Is this something to be solved? It's clearly an issue with VLAN... PS: there is also an issue with the Ping Heatmap and EAFC24... It's showing 10ms extra than the correct one. Other games are correct. With and without Steady Ping. byTrunK
screen-capture.webm Latest v4.0.285 improves a little bit... But it's not enough (Expected results: 940Mbps for download and upload) With SmartBoost: 806,46Mbps for download & 940Mbps for upload Without SmartBoost: 912,15Mbps for download & 83,54Mbps for upload ☠️
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 13, 2024 Administrators Share Posted September 13, 2024 It seems from your new post that you're using PPPoE also is that correct? If so it's more likely that than the VLAN causing it. It's something the team will be looking to improve but glad to see it has improved somewhat with the new firmware, I'll have them look into it. Indeed. It's VLAN & PPPoE. It improved... But the upload without SmartBoost is worrying me 😅

The Ping Heatmaps are an estimate really, they won't be pin point accurate and you'll get a more accurate ping on the Geo-Filter
byTrunK
Thanks @Netduma Fraser! But now, I see another issue after last early version... Wifi download speeds are broken! I'm 30cm far from the router and, of course, connected to 5Ghz ☠️
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 14, 2024 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2024 Presumably you've split the bands then so you can connect to 5GHz specifically? Try this: Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that Experiment with the widths to see what gives better results Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity of the router ~3 feet if possible Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

However, I tried with 3 smartphones literally 1 centimeter away from the router. There are no metal surfaces or any devices in between. Before updating to v4.0.285, it was working more or less fine...
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 14, 2024 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2024 Fine as in you've tried different widths etc as that would make a big difference. How do you have your priorities set up, any internet rules, DMZ set, VPN etc?

I bought the R3 six days ago, and I'm still waiting to see the main function that all routers MUST have working: SPEED! I thought Duma was a robust OS, but every new firmware I try has more issues than the previous one. I'm not a novice user, and as a senior programmer, I know how development paths should go... and this is very disappointing.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 14, 2024 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2024 It could be that VLAN/PPPoE combo again, if you do what you did before to take that out of the equation do they increase? How is Congestion Control set currently? As you know then quite often issues are not universal and require troubleshooting and investigating to find the cause before an attempted fix can be made. byTrunK
So... Once again, I’m wasting my time testing this with the previous setup (ONT + ISP Router for VLAN & PPPoE + R3 DHCP). I wasn't able to complete the test because it kept disconnecting (even with DMZ, firewall off, and fixed IP from the ISP Router)... However, at least the download speed test was completed, and it was better (around 600Mbps). So, it indeed seems to be related to the PPPoE + VLAN setup. I understand that the issues are not universal, but we are talking about PPPoE + VLAN connections, which are the most common in countries like mine (Spain). I expect this type of connection to be considered in all tests before firmware releases... This is not a 20€ router... By the way, could you please ensure the team is aware of this so it gets fixed soon? P.S.: Thank you for always taking care and responding to everything. It's very much appreciated. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted September 14, 2024 Administrators Share Posted September 14, 2024 At least here in the UK VLAN isn't very common and if something is required it's usually PPPoE. From what we've seen generally it's either one or the other, we don't get it too often where both are used but I take your point. I will definitely let the team know so they can look into it. You're welcome! byTrunK
