Having problems connecting to the net

Hi, I just got my netduma today.  I've followed all the instructions on the quick start guide.  I plugged the netduma in to my ISP hub, put in the password, my devices detect and connect to netduma, but I can't access the internet.  This is true of all my devices.  Laptop, phone, PS4, etc.  Any suggestions?

Hey, thanks for purchasing and so glad to see you received it today! Can you connect to the R1 using an ethernet cable into your laptop and see if you can access the internet that way.

I normally run an ethernet in to my PS4 only and everything else is wireless.  I can run an ethernet cable i to the laptop and try that.  If I still can't access the internet I'll need to unplug it again and try something else.  Give my 5mins I'll try it out.

Okay thanks, even if you cant access the internet see if you can access the control panel when wired.

I just tried when wired and still no internet connection.  I'm sure it's something simple I just can't figure out what it might be.  As soon as I plug the BT hub in everything works again.  This is what I'm looking at:

 

EDIT: I think I can access the contral panel when the netduma is in.  Is there anything I should be doing in there?

The ISP provided me with a little white box that plugs straight in to the wall.  From that box connects the BT home hub.  From the home hub all ethernet and wifi devices connect.  I unplugged the BT home hub totally and replaced it with the netduma.  Put the cables in, reset both devices, put the password in, and that's as far as I've gotten.

I believe you will need your BT home hub still so you would have it like this white box > BT home hub > R1 with devices wired and wireless connected (unless you want to just have wireless devices on the home hub however you wouldnt be able to make use of all the routers features that way) Perhaps others with a BT home hub can post their setup.

Okay well I'll give it a try and see if it works :)

I think the White box Billy is referring to is the BT Openreach modem, if that's the case he can avoid using the Home Hub altogether if he can get the PPPoE update then follow this guide

If you have a modem you can drop the home hub. But you need to upgrade to 1.02.6 to get access to PPPoE and use that to connect with username and password. If you need the firmware upgrade grab it at:

 

http://netduma.com/upgrade

 

You need a username and password for PPPoE, other BT users have confirmed the following works.

 

User name: bthome[email protected]

Password: BT

Yes it's an open reach box.  Should I remove the BT HUB, plug netduma back in, and then attempt the PPPoE update? 

 

Yes please, youll need to download the update before you connect the netduma and then do an upgrade follow these instructions http://www.netduma.com/upgrade

Okay, I downloaded the file.  It's on my desktop.  So when I plug in the netduma how do I update exactly?  The instructions say 'On the router select Upgrade on the bottom left' - I don't know where this is.

Youll have to go onto the router control panel by going to 192.168.88.1 or http://r1and then you can access where to upgrade

Hi Billy,

 

Once you have your netduma connected to your PC - open a browser and type in 192.168.88.1. This will access the routers user interface. Upgrade is on the bottom left in there.

Hi Billy I'm not sure why that has happended. Immediately I can see two possibilities:

  1. Can you please finish the first 4 steps in the tour. So click the logo and do what the white boxes say till one of the white boxes has an x above them so you can end it
  2. Once you've done that go to upgrade and select advanced. Then upload the file like you've done and select upgrade

If that doesn't work please let me know what browser you are using? We suggest using chrome/firefox if you ever have any issues.

I'll give it another go.  I already use Firefox.  The file I downloaded and tried to upgrade is 10.5MB in size.  I think it's the correct one.  I'll go thru all the steps as you suggest.

That sounds like the right file mate. I've never seen that before, hopefully its the fact that the tour is not finished yet.

Okay I tried agian.  There's only so far I can get in the tour while offline.  I tried to upload the file I already had and got this:

Try ending the tour by clicking the "x" in the top right corner please. Also you are on the latest version, I think you've already upgrade :)

 

So now you'll notice in "Settings > WAN" you can enter the pppoe settings.

Well. it's running.  We're now communicating via netduma router.  I was unsure about the settings once I got in to WAN so put in the username and password provided earlier and just click 'enabled' on all settings.  If there is an optimal way to put these settings then I'm all for it.

 

I'll begin the guide and try to setup the device for use.
