XR1000v2 Packet loss and high ping while Gaming.

Recommended Posts

I have had this router for about a month now and i have had constant issues. I have 1gib fiber up and down, this is my connection benchmark and I have QoS on at 70%. I have tried with QoS on and off. I always have a lot of issues while someone is watching TV aswell. Very frustrating because gaming is almost impossible if someone else is using the internet. I have tried everything and read a lot of forums and nothing has helped. Hopefully someone here can help me solve this issue.

  • In other words your ONT/ISP Box
  • If the light is not white then yes something is wrong as it should be solid white not orange.
  • What type of connection do you have DHCP OR PPOE?

I'll be heading off for the night the admin will ask you for further details/give advice on what to do depending on your issue but I would first check if it your ISP having issues by running a software like ping plotter or just use command prompt and ping hops will connected solely to the ONT box.

Whenever i plug the ethernet into the isp box, everything runs perfectly it seems and i believe its a DHCP.

I am not the admin but I believe there is a known issue with ppoe/fiber connections therefore the solution is to have your ONT box handle the connection and then use the XR1000 as the host to control the network.

They say it already fixed and the firmware is pending on netgear whenever that is released....the admin should be on tomorrow.

Any news on when that firmware should be updated? Thanks for the reply

What is the model of the modem/router the XR is connected to and how have you set that to ensure all traffic flows to the XR? E.g. XR in its DMZ, modem/bridge mode

Are ALL devices connected to the XR?

The modem is provided from my isp i believe its an adtran 620.  The xr is plugged into the modem/ONT via ethernet, and all devices are connected to the xr. I dont know what mode it is in, i have not messed with any of those settings so im not sure.

I'd suggest testing with downloads while following: https://bit.ly/bufferbloat-test start with a high value e.g 95%, test, decrease 10%, test, decrease 10% etc, until you get to a value that is pretty good, then try 5% either side of that value to see if it can be improved. Important to note that Download/Upload on CC don't have to be the same value & you may have a better experience with differing values. This is more of a real world test as you're actually doing traffic you would normally do.
