Mach3r
My R3 arrives tomorrow but so does my Nighthawk pro WiFi 6. I am trying to decide which to keep and which to return. My upload bufferbloat is over 100 ms so I need some serious help. Will the R3 mostly eliminate it? From what I read the Nighthawk will. Thanks. bbursley
Yes. I just got mine. Updated to latest firmware (version before that was pretty bad), let the router do its thing during the process. Latency was more stable, bufferbloat mitigation felt far better, geofilter was very consistent in getting New York server over and over every match. Pretty impressed so far. Wi-Fi speeds even got way better than the firmware before the update. Overall, not bad!
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 11 Administrators Share Posted June 11 Is it the XR1000 you got? In which case both should eliminate it, they're based on the same software created by us. Best thing to do is to use both on their own and experiment with them and see what works best for you. It's worth noting that the software on the R3 is the latest and it won't be coming to the XR1000 and you won't get any new feature updates on the XR1000. bbursley

Thanks for the response on the parent controls too. Just need something to cut off my kids. I will definitely keep the R3 assuming it can reduce this crazy ass bufferbloat. Thanks. bbursley and Netduma Fraser

It looks like the XR1000 comes with SQM built in and thats what gets the bufferbloat under control. Unless I am mistaken I dont see SQM on the R3. Does it use another method? Alias 1aB
with the last 2 firmware .214 and .219, I have almost zero buffer bloat now. So the answer to your question may be yes but it really all depends on where you live and who your ISP is. Fiber optic connections are going to have less overall latency than most cable internet providers who still use coax from the node to the premise. It is present on the R3, it's hidden in Ping Optimizer > Advanced, you can adjust it there like you would with the XR1000
