Slamchez
Hi everyone, I've been using my R3 for the past couple of weeks with little to no issue. Everything is generally moved over aside from two smart plugs that are still attached to my XR1000 in AP mode. Unfortunately a couple of days ago I started waking up to no internet access on only some devices. For example, my brother's xbox does not connect and my mother's streaming device no longer connects. However, my phone still works as well as the living room streaming device and I can connect to the router through the iOS app. I have so much on the network that I assign everything a v4 ip address. When this happened yesterday, I went ahead and disabled the v6 addresses as I thought this may be causing some kind of conflict, even thought v4 addresses were assigned. This morning it was the usual suspects again so I started checking other devices before I rebooted the router. The iOS app tells me everything is online and accounted for. All devices aside from my phone and the obvious things like iPads and things on the network are wired. Once again: - The Xbox does not connect to the internet. - Mom's streaming device is not connecting. - My phone is able to access the router. This time I additionally checked: - My Mac mini was not connected and I was unable to access the router with it. It said it was online and was assigned its addresses in the Networking section of Settings. - I booted my gaming PC and it was not assigned its ip address. At this point I turned off the XR1000 ( I won't need it until later for the smart plugs) rebooted the router and all seems well. What can I do to troubleshoot this? Is there some log file I can access somewhere? Or even any place I can look to give a hint as to what, if any, device could be causing this to happen? Edited May 23 by Slamchez Added context that most devices are wired. Disrek
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 23 Administrators Share Posted May 23 The first best thing to try would be to try the latest firmware in Early Access: https://forum.netduma.com/forum/151-netduma-r3-early-access/ and see if it's any better after that - you do not need to factory reset the router after the update. Slamchez
Thanks. Will have to find an ideal time to do this when I'll be home for multiple days consistently. Most likely next week. For reference I'm currently on v4.0.21 and had resisted any of the betas as I was aware of wifi dropping issues with newer updates. Is there a link to be able to revert to this firmware if there is an issue with the updated version?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 23 Administrators Share Posted May 23 Early Access is quite stable generally but here you are https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/ksyvf44z7yted5pmjpagy/DumaOS-R3-4.0.21.sig?rlkey=cx9tu193eot9520o1vawzs4di&st=n06cvrcp&dl=
Slamchez
Thanks. This way I have it to revert to if for some reason it's worse than the one I'm on. So I left the XR1000 off all night and most of the day. I only turned it on to allow the smart plugs to do their things around dusk. While things were fine all day unfortunately I just had a disconnect. I think I was able to capture a log file and while I do think I see when it happened, I don't see anything suspicious. Will be more than happy to DM the log file. Will also give the new firmware a go when I get back next week.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 25 Administrators Share Posted May 25 Is it just devices connected to the XR that get disconnected or devices directly connected to the R3 as well?
Slamchez
Everything disconnects it seems like. The R3 just seems to freeze and everything loses connectivity. When it happened last night I was playing COD so I had a router window open and nothing. I was basically booted out. I did initially try and grab the log file from my phone but I couldn’t save a txt file. Best I could’ve done was screenshots. Today I left the XR 1000 on overnight and everything is fine. The only thing I changed was I took it out of AP mode in case I have to put everything back on that router.

When it next happens, even if you can't access the interface via a PC, go to http://192.168.77.1/cgi-bin/logs.txt on the PC and you should be able to get the logs from there
Slamchez
Unfortunately it looks like there were some crashes over the weekend. It also looks like it's been about 24 hrs since the last reboot. I just tried the url you gave above as a test and get no such file or directory. I'll try it again on the next crash and see if I can get a log file. I'll also do the firmware update at that time. Let me know if you want me to DM you the previous log files from last week.
Slamchez
Also, I've noticed CPU 2 keeps pegging itself on and off at 100% usage fairly often. Seems almost constant, honestly. These screenshots are pretty much back to back and this is the norm for CPU 2 and only CPU 2.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted May 28 Administrators Share Posted May 28 We just launched a new firmware in Early Access, can you try that and see if you get the same issues please?
Slamchez
4.0.219? Will do after one last reboot to see if I can grab that log.

Slamchez
Just wanted to post a follow up before updating the router: It went about 4 days before needing a reboot. What the difference was I'm not sure. The only things that were different during those four days were that I left the XR1000 off until yesterday. It finally stopped working at about 1:30 am EDT. I'm still not sure what could have been causing this issue and why it suspiciously stopped. Otherwise the only other thing I did with the R3 was aI played with the RGB settings a little bit. Again, not sure how that would cause an issue. Otherwise I used it as I normally would, which is to have the geofence up during gaming sessions and just sitting at the dashboard and things while I try to see what could be causing this issue. Anyway, I'm off to update to the latest firmware and hoping this issue is fixed or at least gone away.

Slamchez
Good news/bad news: Good news: We've been up for about a day and a half with no issue (so far). (I do wish the uptime gave a days/hours/minutes like the XR1000 so I knew exactly how long when troubleshooting like this) Looks like I clawed back about 50 - 100Mb to my connection and now hit 750 - 800Mb/sec where on the previous firmware it was about 700 - 750Mb. Hopefully future firmware updates will improve this even further. Bad News: IPv6 LAN is causing an issue with the PS5 store where store items don't load and we are unable to download or purchase things. There is an older thread around here that I found and will update there Edited June 2 by Slamchez Typo
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 2 Administrators Share Posted June 2 That's great to hear! I would suggest disabling IPv6 for LAN/WAN at the moment, we're aware there needs to be more work done there
Slamchez
That's exactly where I left it since it works. Also, this was something else I noticed that maybe you can bring to the team's attention: it seems my Steam downloads are being miscategorized in Smartboost? I do not believe this was new to .
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 2 Administrators Share Posted June 2 Okay thanks I'll pass that on!
Slamchez
And the issue is back after an uptime of about 3.5 days. All wired devices are affected, wireless ones are not. I am able to browse and post this from my MacBook Pro however desktop Macs and PCs, consoles, and AppleTV devices that are wired do not work at all. I am also able to login from the router form this MacBook. I've attached the log file I have but I believe it went out around 3-4 am but that is gone from the logs. That's when my Mom's AppleTV stops pulling data. After that any downloaded data is wireless. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 4 Administrators Share Posted June 4 Are you on the Early Access version of .219 or the public one? If you're on the Early Access version we should be able to check the remote logs for more details
Slamchez
I honestly don’t remember which link I used to download the update. How can I check which one I’m using?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 4 Administrators Share Posted June 4 No easy way to check as they're both the same essentially. I'll pass the logs on to the team and have them check the remote logs at around 4am your time to see if there is anything there. If it then starts to happen consistently would you be happy to have closer communication with a dev to diagnose the problem?
Slamchez
Generally it seems to happen between 1am onward EDT. It was happening daily, lately less so. ~ 3-4 days given the last two. 6 minutes ago, Netduma Fraser said: If it then starts to happen consistently would you be happy to have closer communication with a dev to diagnose the problem? Of course! Let me know if you need me to turn on the remote access for them. Also, just for additional info, I did upgrade my smart plugs Sunday and expect that the XR1000 is no longer in the mix going forward.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 4 Administrators Share Posted June 4 If you could disable IPv6, enable remote access and then let us know when it next happens but don't reboot or try to fix it in anyway so we can have a look at that time that would be really helpful!
