Are you talking about ping in game or on the geofilter?

Maybe the geofilter just shows your opponent's ping and not the host in private game.

Or you have to go through a dedicated server, even if it is private.

I think maybe there is a misconception here, just because you're the host doesn't mean you'll have a really low ping - you still need to connect to that person so your ping will be higher relative to their location
