Higher base ping on speed tests and COD with the R3

Hey there! I got the R3 delivered the other day and I got to say I'm impressed! The ping optimizer got me an A+ score which I never had before with any other router. One thing that I noticed is that my base ping used to be around 10-12ms, but is now around 15-18ms when doing speedtests and in call of duty on my own host in a bot lobby my ping is higher then before. I got steady ping off, so that's not the problem. With it on it's even higher, but that's what it's supposed to be with it on ofcourse. also tried speedtest bypass on and off, but seems the same. Is there an explanation for this?

Another thing I noticed is that when I turn off my lan ipv6 I wasn't able to connect any devices through wifi. It would try to connect to the router, but stop after 2 seconds. Not sure why.

If anyone knows something about this or has the same, please let me know! :)

Your lucky if its only gone up by that much I used to get like 7-10 pings on most games now I get like 30-40 ping every game seriously needs sorting out what ever it is also fifa feels like I'm playing in slow mo tried everything and nothing works. Also when I first got the r3 was brilliant hit reg since I updated I die quicker like way to quick and my hit detection is pretty shitty.

@Netduma Fraser I've seen more people with the higher latency problem. Is this something that's adressed by you guys aswell?

It could be that problem but actually it's most likely steady ping, if you disable that is it better?

Yes it is something the team are looking into currently and will be fixing.

Okay good to know. Also the ping fluctuates a lot in game. Usually it's steady with a ping deviation of like 1 or 2 max. But now its even 5ms or more. Something I noticed is that the ping changes gradual. It doesn't jump from 13 to 18 suddenly but slowly goes up by 1 or 2 ms every couple seconds and goes down the same.

That could just be the server, it's normal for the ping to fluctuate a little, that's precisely why we made Steady Ping so you don't get affected by it

Yeah I understand that, but it doesn't do it when I use my modem or an other router. So seems to be this router specific.

It could be local congestion, in which case if you fine tune your Congestion Control/SmartBOOST settings it could eliminate it. Otherwise if it is the issue we know about we'll get it sorted asap

I've tried a couple different setups in the congestion control. I have found something which might be interesting to look at. I have done some different tests with the asus ax-11000 pro and the R3. It seems like the R3 doesn't wanna ping under 10ms really (see screenshot). Only 1 time it pinged 9.5ms. This is the same with ping optimizer on/off, smartboost on/off and steady ping on/off.image.thumb.png.b09bdea381cd018627087be25b4ff2f7.png

But with the asus router it pings as low as 7.9ms (see screenshot) which makes the avarage unloaded ping lower. This was with multiple tests the same.  image.thumb.png.bdfc8afc7fe45fda9c28275368196a21.png

Another thing I saw was that the steady ping target starts at 10ms (see screenshot).image.png.eb470c6eb07712f81c0f46ac6f816f4a.png

I'm not sure if this value is the same for everyone. But could this have an influence on the internet speed and cause it not to ping lower then 10ms? Might be bugged? It's a wild assumption but this is the only thing I can think of. I'll wait anyways for an update, in case this is the same thing yous adressed already. Let me know anyways what you think.

There have been some reports that it might be applying to devices not added to the Geo-Filter so you could try disabling that entirely and see if the tests report lower

How do I entirely disable that?

From the screenshot you provided just turn off the toggle button

Ooh you mean like that. I tried that indeed but didn't change anything unfortunately... :/

Probably the issue we're looking into then, hopefully we'll find the cause and can provide a fix this week

Yeah think so aswell! Thanks anyways. Looking forward to the update ;)

It’s not the servers it’s for sure the r3 causing that

Yeah probably. Its just a shame because my bufferbloat results are better with the R3 but the higher ping just makes it not matter XD. I'm sure they will fix it tho. Let's not forget that the router just got released with the new software, so it's understandable there are some things that need to be worked on. Just a matter of patience.

They’ve said they are aware of it so I expect it to be fixed, how long that’s going to take is the real question because gun battles are real inconsistent right now imo.

Fraser said he was hoping later this week. But things can always turn out to take longer. At the end of the day I'd rather let them take their time to fix it instead of rushing a new update with other bugs XD

I haven’t seen anything about later this week I may have just missed it, hopefully not just the .23 firmware unless they’ve made more improvements because that’s the one I’m using currently and it didn’t help with anything related to higher base ping and ping spikes.

the fact is these issues should of been picked up in testing. from what ive heard they were from testers but reports fell on deaf ears. youd be dreaming if this issue will be fixed within a month let alone a week. id imgaine returns are coming back to them as the router does the exact opposite of what it supposed too lol. good luck with the wait and just remember you paid to be a beta tester for this product when others got it for free.
