Dabenport
Hi. I recently noticed my QOS has been doing nothing? I ran some speed tests and saw I was getting my full speed(not limited 70%) Have congestion control set to always on. Shouldn't this limit the speed at all times? It seems to not work at all. Even if I set the slider to 0 or 1% I get 940mbps on a speedtest. I checked and all the values in the QOS tab seem to be correct. It just does nothing? Edit: Setting 0% actually cut my net off for a few minutes then came back on with full speed. Set it back to regular 70/70.

Dabenport
I did a factory reset yesterday. Didn't help.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 25, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2023 Hello, welcome to the forum! You mentioned it happened recently, was there anything you changed around that time? What firmware version are you on currently? Do you use IPv6, VLAN or PPPoE? Dabenport
No I didn't change anything. I was only looking at the router cuz my wifi was having issues. 3-4 days ago my security system started connecting/disconnecting a lot, couldn't arm the system. Certain devices couldn't connect without a static ip. That led me to running some tests and finding the issue with qos. I did a factory reset too. While that fixed the issue with WIFI or DHCP the problem with qos persists. The qos even seems to make some tests show worse results somehow. waveform test with qos enabled https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=d14a2725-0575-4036-ba97-d239ad8065f0 QOS disabled : https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=3757a4c1-4cf3-4141-a7b1-38cda60b5c2b firmware: XR500 V2.3.2.134 I do have IPV6 enabled. VLAN is disabled. Not sure what PPPoE is. Without QOS With QOS

Dabenport
I also tried changing congestion control to auto-enable with all ports from my pc prioritized.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 25, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2023 Ahh, it's because you've prioritized every single port to your PC so it's superseding Congestion Control, better to add it with the Games Console service - it'll prioritize games and allow Congestion Control to throttle for the device. Dabenport
Here is a test I just ran. I have the all ports rule turned off. But the overwatch rule is enabled and I have overwatch open. Same result. I checked to make sure the overwatch rule was active as well. https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=e2eb96d8-7ad9-48da-9679-36482755d4ba I disabled the overwatch rule & all ports rule. Set congestion control to always enabled, now it works. https://www.waveform.com/tools/bufferbloat?test-id=d7ef90c6-f7fb-4a2c-8cf7-26252a681b84 Is there anyway to make the congestion control work while also having the overwatch traffic prioritization rule? Also just to clarify I didn't add that all ports rule until after I was testing. The issue was originally happening without that rule. Just the overwatch rule. Edit: I tried enabling the game console rule for my pc but I get the same results. As soon as any of these rules are active the congestion control part of QOS stops working. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 25, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 25, 2023 It must be the test itself that is using ports that are covered by those services, if you use speedtest.net does it throttle as expected?
Dabenport
No it doesnt. As soon as any of the traffic prioritization rules are active the congestion control feature stops working. Here is a test with overwatch open. Game console(tested again with overwatch rule same result) rule enabled and active. Speedtest does not throttle. And heres the test with game console rule disabled. Overwatch still open. Congestion control set to always. From what Im seeing here congestion control turns off as soon as a traffic prioritization rule is active. Which just seems backwards.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 26, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2023 Have you done any Traffic Controller rules for the device or put it in the DMZ, port forwarded etc?
Dabenport
No. Traffic controller section is empty(disable all rules is also checked). Also no DMZ and no port forwarding.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 26, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2023 Is DumaOS Classified Games still enabled and active when doing a speedtest?
Dabenport
Yea that rule has always been enabled. It sometimes doesn't show active when overwatch is open though. The weirdest thing. QOS is now working.. I didn't change anything from the last test. But now when overwatch is open congestion control is working.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted June 26, 2023 Administrators Share Posted June 26, 2023 Bizarre, may have gotten itself into a weird state, glad to hear it's working now!
