Karlo
Hey guys, I set up my netduma R2 a few days ago. Today i tried to use the Hybrid VPN with my ExpressVPN on my PS5. I usually get 300mbits download and around 60 upload speed on my PS5. As soon as I enable Hybrid VPN my the download speed on my PS5 slows down to around 5 mbits. I know that using a VPN will slow down your internet connection, but I did not expect such a drastic drop in speed. Am i doing somethin wrong? I really would appreciate your help! Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted March 16, 2023 Administrators Share Posted March 16, 2023 Welcome to the forum! You're not doing anything wrong, using OpenVPN specifically and through the router will slow it down quite significantly but it's plenty for gaming so there won't be any issues in that regard. If you need to do an update or download then disable the VPN briefly and then re-enable once it's done.
Fuzy
It's mainly related to a hardware limit... R2 cpu which can't route more than 20/20 Mbps (on a nearby server) with openVPN which is pretty good. To have better speeds the best is to use Wireguard, less heavy and more powerful (Reason for which the Netduma team to integrate this service) but it is necessary a compatible VPN operator who distributes configuration files. Many have their own wireguard hybrid service so better vault it to make sure before taking out a subscription!
