W4R
Hi so I have a problem with the congestion control, in trying to lower the download and upload bandwidths for better bufferbloat. Iv enabled it to always and have lowered the sliders. But when I do a broadband speed test it's getting the full speed still.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 19, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 19, 2023 Hey, welcome to the forum! Where are you testing the speeds exactly? Can you provide a screenshot of your QoS page please?
W4R
Is it because I have pppoe connection. I seen another topic saying that's the issue
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 19, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 19, 2023 Possibly but where is it that you're testing the speeds, is it on Connection Benchmark or speedtest.net for example?
W4R
Multiple different speed test. All show the same result. I'm with b.t 900 and I get close to them speeds.
W4R
Also I'm using the xr1000 netgear with pppoe connection. Everything els works perfectly fine. It just won't throttle the speeds using the sliders
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2023 PPPoE will be the cause, can you have the BT router handle that instead with the XR in the DMZ of the BT router?
W4R
I'm not sure how that works. How do I connect the BT router with xr ?
W4R
And wouldn't that give me a double NAT. I would rather just use the 1 router. Might send it back if you guys are not working on a fix
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2023 Are you not connected to the BT router currently? Using the DMZ method I mentioned would prevent a double NAT. It should be resolved in the next update, this is a workaround until that is available. W4R
No the xr is connected to the modem, not the home hub.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 20, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 20, 2023 Until the fix is available connect your BT router, then the XR to that, input the PPPoE details into the BT router, take the WAN IP from the XR System Information page and put that in the BT router DMZ and you should be good to go. Hotchin88
Hi Fraser. Just wondering if this congestion control problem will actually get fixed?. I purchased the xr1000 on release and was having the same problem then, so i sent it back. Yesterday i purchased the xr1000 again. I was hoping this time things would be a lot better, but turns out just the same. I never had a problem with my netduma or xr500. Im on a fiber connection (pppoe) xr1000 connected to ONT. Problems im having. .Congestion control not limiting . Mega slow interface (Takes ages to load anything) . Nothing seems to appy, just says taking to long or something about r-apps

Also ensure you're not forcing a connection to the interface using HTTPS as that will slow it down as well.
Hotchin88
Not sure what you mean when you say about forcing https ? When i do auto setup on congestion control, its says leave it at 100% on download and upload. will it say that because its not working properly ? i get 500 down and 100 up . Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted January 21, 2023 Administrators Share Posted January 21, 2023 We're still improving Auto Setup so it may recommend that from time to time, if it does just apply Congestion Control manually - if you can use another router to handle PPPoE then CC will work correctly. Some browsers force HTTPS, check if your browser does this, then disable it if you can.
