Interesting problem...

Recommended Posts

All in a sudden my XR500 what was rock solid working and all, ended up having most (if not all the r-apps stopping working - I am running 2.3.2.134).

I have restarted it 3-4 times already, in hope of fixing the issue but no luck at all, most of the r-apps are still not running - network monitor, device manager, geo-filter, connection benchmark, traffic controller... all of them stopped working.

I then checked the logs via the system information (thanks Lord this one still works) and I found this error message:

[DumaOS] Exception caught in 'com.netdumasoftware.devicemanager': ERROR: value outside type domain stack traceback: ^I?: in fun, tion '__new__' ^I?: in function '?' ^I?: in function <?:469> ^I(tail call): ? ^I?: in function 'long_call' ^I?: in function '?' ^I?: in function <?:145> ^I?: in function 'mass_mark' ^I?: in function '?' ^I?: in function '?' ^I?: in function <?:405> ^I[C]: in function 'xpcall' ^I?: in function 'try' ^I?: in function <?:263> ^I(tail call): ? ^I?: in function <?:30> ^I[C]: in function 'xpcall' ^I?: in main chunk ^I[C]: ? I had indeed added a new device not long ago so I was wondering if that could have caused that issue but I have a big doubt and as I cannot access any of the r-apps I am not too sure what are the next steps.

Also I have spent hours managing all the ethernet addresses to their names and all so I do not feel like factory resetting the router and loose the configuration (port forwarding, triggering, custom services), and my bet is backup the config to restore it will put me right back to the same situation.

So ... what are the options here ?

What was the device you added? Did you change its device type or make any specific rules for it in port forwarding, Traffic prio etc?

My guess is that some rule you have made is outside of the expected parameters for whatever reason and that's thrown everything out of whack - once the Device Manager goes down the rest of the Rapps will as they rely on it to know what device they need to apply rules to etc. If it is a change you have made then rebooting won't work because it will still be present, likewise making a config when the system isn't working would likely restore it to a broken state when you upload it. You can try the config and it might be something that doesn't save but in this case I think a clean factory reset is likely the only way to restore functionality.

On second thought, if you remove the recently added device from ethernet or turn its WiFi off then reboot the router, wait 2 minutes then access that might prompt it to delete the rules because the device is no longer connected.

When I say added, I mean it was a new device added onto the wifi (mobile phone) and I didn't change anything else.

Now when a new device is added (wireless or not) I think the software adds automatically an entry to its tables of some sort.

And when you speak of rules, what kind of rule could that be ? Where would it be configured ? Happy so look into the menus that are still working to try to clear the latest additions. Just as an addendum... the only menus that are still working are System Information and Settings... all the other menus on the panel end up with an Rapp error message.

I wish I could remove that new entry but the device manager is not available. On top of that, this device is no longer on the network for a couple of days now - it was just a friend stopping by and I logged their phone onto the wifi. And with telnet no longer available via the debug, not much can be done to attempt correcting the configs.

Factory reset means I loose all the devices associations (ethernet addresses to name) all the other rules, Qos configuration, VPN in and out, dynamic dns which could mean a day's worth of work to put it back working... and as I work from home these days, I simply cannot afford this downtime.

Understood, in that case there wouldn't be any rules that would have been automatically added to the interface that you could interact with. Try re-upgrading to the same firmware version, then see if that allows it to work but I suspect you may have to do a factory reset unfortunately to clear it.
