WiFi drops on R2 without discernible reason

Unhappy with the performance on this router. I really enjoy DumaOS, but the router is inconsistent. My WiFi drops 1-2 times per week, which is unacceptable for a gaming router. I am posting here in the hopes for a fix, but am prepared to contact support for a return if this cannot be rectified.

Welcome to the forum!

Here are a few suggestions to try and boost the WiFi.

  1. Disable Mirror Mode, give 2.4/5GHz different names and apply - you'll want to connect to 5GHz specifically for speeds, 2.4GHz for range
  2. Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that
  3. Experiment with the widths to see what gives better results
  4. Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface
  5. Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proxity ~3 feet if possible
  6. Set the antennae to this position _ | | _

In the next version we have made some changes that should improve WiFi performance overall.

Hi Fraser, appreciate the quick response. I’ll try the channels and the antennae positions. Thank you, will revert back with results.

Hi Fraser, I have tried the above. I also tried to increase the DHCP refresh time to 168 hours as per recommendations on another thread (I can link it if needed, just need to find it again).

I am still experiencing Wi-Fi drops. Is there anything else I can try that you’d recommend?

Have the suggestions improved it at all, i.e. reduced the frequency of the drops? Is it reconnecting on its own? If it is how long does it take or if it doesn't what do you need to do to resolve it?

Hi Fraser! Nothing made an obvious difference. Since my original post, the WiFi drops a bit more frequently. On average, 3-4 times a day (every 3-4 hours roughly) that I notice. Sometimes I restart the router via power cable, but it typically returns on its own after 1-2 minutes.
