Dumb down the interface in the router then offer the nice GUI and extended capabilities from an app. So your router is configured mainly from a phone/PC or whatever but not a browser.

The advantage of this is the router can be very simple, require fewer changes (because many changes would go to the app) and hopefully less testing and issues with other companies ( netgear and so on ). The app on the other hand can be amazing.  No limits on memory, tons of cpu power, access to information about the router, PC, tablets and so on. It can not only control the router but it also has access to gaming PC's directly so can control traffic there too.

It's bascially splitting dumaOS in to two parts. The low level part running on the router and the high level part running on an app. With extra bells and whistles.

Thank you for the suggestion, I really like the way you've approached this.

Our next update to the R2 will be massively focused on a new mobile UI. I'll link the video below if you haven't seen it. This UI is then going to be integrated into our app as well as NETGEAR's.

It isn't at this stage dumbing down the desktop UI at all but we are definitely keen to give users more power from their phones as you mention. I'll pass on your idea of being much more focused on the mobile experience and keeping the Desktop UI for the essentials. Thank you!
