Unfortunately the results are often determined by who has the lowest ping which is a big frustration for us all. I have a netgear nighthawk router and according to this article I can minimize ping by picking the nearest server but it's not clear if this is for single player only or if I'm the host of the game, whether it would apply to our multiplayer sessions. Yes in theory it should work with friends as well, so have your Geo-Filter enabled, have it set to an area in the middle of you all (East Coast US is probably the fairest for you all), you be the party leader, invite your friends in and you should force the server for all of you.
