Nighthawk XR1000 or R2 ( Tenda Nova Mesh help )

Hi Guys,

Forgive me if this has been asked but I am struggling to find any real solid information.

I currently have a Tenda nova mesh network MW12 Tri-Band setup around my house, and the Wi-Fi is good and when I am gaming I get 50-70MS ping.

Now I have done some research and I can see that Netgear have released a gaming router ( XR1000 ) which says it can reduce lag and latency by 93%, every little helps 😂.

Now I have bought the Nighthawk XR1000 but I completely forgot that I probably won't be able to run both in parallel because they will probably be broadcasting two different SSID's and that could cause it to interfere with each other.

I think I read on one post that this setup would probably work best with NetDuma R2 as it is basically the software that would reduce the lag, lower the ping.

Can anyone advise me on what would be a better setup?

I would like to use the Tenda Nova Mesh as it will be able to provide Wi-Fi to deadzones, also I don't have an opportunity to connect it via cable directly to the router so has to be a Wi-Fi connection unless its wired via the Tenda nova box to the PS5.

Hi Guys,

Thank you very much for the warm welcome.

Tenda MW12-3 Whole Home Mesh Wi-Fi System, Tri-band

That is the mesh network I use, I can see that I can put it in bridge mode which means it’s basically an AP if I am not mistaken.

So the priority for me is gaming performance and reducing ping etc.

the XR1000 is £270 while the Netduma is £140.

if that’s the case would it make sense to purchase the netduma and use Duma OS via the R2 and use the mesh as the wi fi network?

would I still be able to reduce ping and use all the features properly if I put the mesh in bridge mode and use the router to do QOS etc ?

I believe so and the R2 would be a nice choice if you don’t require the WiFi. I don’t know your router but any issues you have great support here.

So is the only difference between the two the fact that the netgear XR1000 can provide better Wi-Fi signal or will the processing power do more in terms of service like QOS and traffic management etc ?

Yes the XR1000 offers WiFi 6, better coverage and can handle more clients depending on your network. The R2 can still handle the QoS easily, it’s a great system and not hard on the processor like other QoS. Client numbers depend on your connection and client usage. I’ve not seen any reports of the R2 bogging down with clients.

you also get VPN support plus adblocker on the R2 which are not on the XR1000 plus as it’s Netdumas router there’s no interaction with NG.

What do you get on the upload and download from your isp?

Thank you so much for your support on this so far, so I will have two ps5’s .. around 3 smart tvs, a few mobiles connected.. and smart lights etc the R2 should definitely handle our home network right?

Yes, not a problem. You have full control of your devices and IoT use very small amounts of data.

https://netduma.com/terms/

you also have a 14 day return window so plenty of time to try it out.
