Cannot connect to my ISP

Recommended Posts

Dear Netduma. I just bought the Netduma R2. I'm from Malaysia and trying to connect to my local ISP.
My ISP uses PPPOE. My Asus RT-AC87U has no issues connecting via PPPOE to my said ISP. I've even used another router from TP-Link provided by my ISP without any issues too.

I called my ISP and they sent me a technician. He said on their modem they don't have to whitelist or do anything. Was informed that it should work out of the box. Advised me to get back to you to seek support.

I've already done the hardware reset on the router a few times with no luck.

The ISP I'm using is: Telekom Malaysia - Unifi https://unifi.com.my/personal

Please can you advice me on how to resolve this issue ASAP thank you.

Yes I entered the PPPOE information but couldn't establish a connection. The ISP technician did say should have an option that says Unifi Home and if I choose that should work. He couldn't find that on this router.

I think service name is what your implying. What is service name? Can I get that please thank you.

How to setup with service name?

I do know the service name to be Unifi Home. Telekom Malaysia since I'm from Malaysia 😉

I'm unsure what service name options your firmware has?

Can I get that firmware please

After calling and asking about service name my ISP informed me that I require Vlan tagging option to establish an internet connection. Can I please get a firmware or point me how to setup Vlan tagging. It would seem Service Name is not required. Thank you kindly

Unfortunately we don't have a build with VLAN support at the moment but we are working on it. In the meantime you could use one of the other routers to handle PPPoE/VLAN and connect the R2 to that and connect all devices to the R2. Put the R2 WAN IP from System Information into the other router DMZ and you shouldn't have any NAT issues either.

So how does one do this? I connect my Netduma R2 to the Asus RT-AC87U. Also I add 192.168.77.1 to the DMZ in Asus RT-AC87U. Also connect port 1 Netduma R2 to port 1 off Asus RT-AC87U. Is this correct? Please advise. Thank you kindly.

Yup I hadn't taken off the PPPoE information from the R2. After doing a factory reset all is working now. I need to factory reset my Asus because it's doing a lot of my QOS. I need it to just act as a connection hub.

I've bought a tp-link vlan smart switch to better work with the R2.

Also do I set the DNS on the Asus or the R2? Also if I want to use IPv6 I've to do it on the Asus router right?

Finally all works well. I've reset to factory default my Asus router. Also disabled the firewall, upnp and wireless radio.

Now all those functions are controlled by the R2. My ports are stated as open in COD game.

Is there anything else I should disable in the Asus router?

Thanks so much for all your assistance. I can't wait for the new firmware 😜🤣😜

Using the new firmware have had no issues. Everything feels snappier.

My question is how do I make 1 of my desktop computers high priority. I've used the QoS to setup gaming as high priority. I'd like an option to make my desktop high priority. How do I do that?

Bandwidth Allocation isn't priority, you're just allocating more or less bandwidth to a device. Traffic Prioritization is the feature specifically used to prioritize certain applications/services above everything else e.g. your game.

Where can I find Traffic Prioritization tab. Is it under Traffic Controller. Tried using that and it wasn't what I wanted to do.

I need Traffic Prioritization tab to make my desktop the primary device. How to do that? Where is this option? Is there a video I could watch? Thanks 👍

I found it with your guidance. I just want to make my Desktop the primary priority for anything it uses the internet for. When I check the option there are so many categories. Is there one that encompasses all those functions into one so my desktop gets put at the forefront 👌

Right now when I choose my desktop the categories are for a lot of different areas. It be easier to just put my entire desktop as highest priority. How does one accomplish that? Thanks as always 👍👍👍

There is no priority you can give in that sense - the idea is that all devices can use the internet at once without impacting each other. You can allocate more bandwidth to the specific device and I suppose if you need a lot of bandwidth then it will get it so that is priority in a sense. Traffic Prioritization will prioritize games/services/applications for the device above everything else but wouldn't recommend a blanket rule for just that device, just prioritize something specific like gaming would be my recommendation.

How does one allocate more bandwidth to a certain device and allow less bandwidth on others as you stated. I'm not sure which option gives me such control. Thanks as always 👍
