Ramesh
Dear Netduma. I just bought the Netduma R2. I'm from Malaysia and trying to connect to my local ISP. My ISP uses PPPOE. My Asus RT-AC87U has no issues connecting via PPPOE to my said ISP. I've even used another router from TP-Link provided by my ISP without any issues too. I called my ISP and they sent me a technician. He said on their modem they don't have to whitelist or do anything. Was informed that it should work out of the box. Advised me to get back to you to seek support. I've already done the hardware reset on the router a few times with no luck. The ISP I'm using is: Telekom Malaysia - Unifi https://unifi.com.my/personal Please can you advice me on how to resolve this issue ASAP thank you. Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 21, 2020 Hey, welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear you're having this issue. Have you entered the PPPoE information into the R2? Do you require the Service Name to have a connection?
Ramesh
Yes I entered the PPPOE information but couldn't establish a connection. The ISP technician did say should have an option that says Unifi Home and if I choose that should work. He couldn't find that on this router. I think service name is what your implying. What is service name? Can I get that please thank you. How to setup with service name?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 21, 2020 You would need to get the service name from the ISP provider that is needed, once you have that I can provide you with a firmware that has the service name option available. Ramesh
I do know the service name to be Unifi Home. Telekom Malaysia since I'm from Malaysia 😉 I'm unsure what service name options your firmware has? Can I get that firmware please
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 22, 2020 They may have the PPPoE service name as something different, I would suggest double checking with them. Sent you a PM with it.
Ramesh
After calling and asking about service name my ISP informed me that I require Vlan tagging option to establish an internet connection. Can I please get a firmware or point me how to setup Vlan tagging. It would seem Service Name is not required. Thank you kindly
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 22, 2020 Unfortunately we don't have a build with VLAN support at the moment but we are working on it. In the meantime you could use one of the other routers to handle PPPoE/VLAN and connect the R2 to that and connect all devices to the R2. Put the R2 WAN IP from System Information into the other router DMZ and you shouldn't have any NAT issues either.
Ramesh
So how does one do this? I connect my Netduma R2 to the Asus RT-AC87U. Also I add 192.168.77.1 to the DMZ in Asus RT-AC87U. Also connect port 1 Netduma R2 to port 1 off Asus RT-AC87U. Is this correct? Please advise. Thank you kindly.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 22, 2020 You would use the WAN IP from System Information on the R2, not 192.168.77.1 but otherwise yes. Then the blue port on the R2 to any of the LAN ports on the Asus.
Ramesh
Also my Asus has Access Point option. Can I use access point configuration. How does one setup in such a way? Please advise. Also thanks for all the help
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 22, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 22, 2020 You can't use that option and have it handle the necessary PPPoE and VLAN so just recommend doing what I recommended and it will work.
Ramesh
So I've done what you asked. I can't find my WAN IP in system information. The white cable from blue port is connected to port 3 on Asus router. Please help
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 23, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 23, 2020 Have you taken the PPPoE information off the R2 and switched it back to DHCP? Have you entered the required PPPoE and VLAN information on the Asus?
Ramesh
Yup I hadn't taken off the PPPoE information from the R2. After doing a factory reset all is working now. I need to factory reset my Asus because it's doing a lot of my QOS. I need it to just act as a connection hub. I've bought a tp-link vlan smart switch to better work with the R2. Also do I set the DNS on the Asus or the R2? Also if I want to use IPv6 I've to do it on the Asus router right?
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 23, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 23, 2020 Great to hear that! You don't need to change DNS but you can do it on the Asus and then select the option to use Upstream DNS in DHCP settings. Allow IPv6 on both. Ramesh
Finally all works well. I've reset to factory default my Asus router. Also disabled the firewall, upnp and wireless radio. Now all those functions are controlled by the R2. My ports are stated as open in COD game. Is there anything else I should disable in the Asus router? Thanks so much for all your assistance. I can't wait for the new firmware 😜🤣😜
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 23, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 23, 2020 Nothing else needed, you're all set! Well done on getting it all working!
Ramesh
Using the new firmware have had no issues. Everything feels snappier. My question is how do I make 1 of my desktop computers high priority. I've used the QoS to setup gaming as high priority. I'd like an option to make my desktop high priority. How do I do that? Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 24, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 24, 2020 Bandwidth Allocation isn't priority, you're just allocating more or less bandwidth to a device. Traffic Prioritization is the feature specifically used to prioritize certain applications/services above everything else e.g. your game.
Ramesh
Where can I find Traffic Prioritization tab. Is it under Traffic Controller. Tried using that and it wasn't what I wanted to do. I need Traffic Prioritization tab to make my desktop the primary device. How to do that? Where is this option? Is there a video I could watch? Thanks 👍
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 24, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 24, 2020 It's directly under Bandwidth Allocation on the QoS page. What do you mean exactly by primary device?
Ramesh
I found it with your guidance. I just want to make my Desktop the primary priority for anything it uses the internet for. When I check the option there are so many categories. Is there one that encompasses all those functions into one so my desktop gets put at the forefront 👌 Right now when I choose my desktop the categories are for a lot of different areas. It be easier to just put my entire desktop as highest priority. How does one accomplish that? Thanks as always 👍👍👍
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted October 24, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 24, 2020 There is no priority you can give in that sense - the idea is that all devices can use the internet at once without impacting each other. You can allocate more bandwidth to the specific device and I suppose if you need a lot of bandwidth then it will get it so that is priority in a sense. Traffic Prioritization will prioritize games/services/applications for the device above everything else but wouldn't recommend a blanket rule for just that device, just prioritize something specific like gaming would be my recommendation. Ramesh
How does one allocate more bandwidth to a certain device and allow less bandwidth on others as you stated. I'm not sure which option gives me such control. Thanks as always 👍
