Constant Internet outages

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, so I had a old netgear R600 maybe? from walmart like 10 years ago. Never had to restart the thing. I have had this XR500 for 2-3months and I have restarted the thing 20+ times. I have had so many random issues. Now im a techy person, my job is apple tech support and I am in school for IT emphasis on networking. My point is I dont know everything but I know more then the average user and I have loads of patience for tech issues. Now the problems with this router started in the first week, it would randomly disconnect from the internet and when running the basic windows troubleshooter would tell me the ethernet doesnt have a valid IP config. This would happen every 2-3 days. Talked with tech support and they had me set my DNS to google and that fixed it for 3 solid weeks. After that I started getting issues with the router kicking me off the internet on everything both wifi and anything hooked up directly with the ethernet cord. The only fix is simply a restart of the router. Windows again told me its the ethernet adapter? Thats odd, so I just restart the router and its fine again. It even suddenly decided to not do this anymore. Now for the past 2 weeks this router literally every day once a day it will have no internet. Again running windows troubleshooter states the router or modem is having connectivity issues and the only fix is restarting it. I am running the latest firmware V2.3.2.56. When I look the logs I see constant IP lease events.

Here is some of the events. I didnt show the runs posting my IP.

I get loads of this everyday. Along with this below.

[DumaOS] DHCP lease change., Sunday, October 04, 2020 19:33:37
[DumaOS] DHCP new event., Sunday, October 04, 2020 19:33:37

I get these lease change events in the logs every single day many times a day. So I dont know if that helps but there it is. I work from home so this is bad having random disconnects especially if im in the middle of a call with a customer. I did get an invite to download the beta for 3.0 netduma however I am very concerned with trying a beta because I dont want more issues. Anyone who has this beta is it good? does it fix this issue? If not what can i do to fix this? Calling netgear is really not helpful Im pretty sure those guys get a days training.

Factory reset the xr500 they should be a button in the back for that or you can log in xr500 and find it in the setting after you factory reset download dns bench mark and use the best dns server for you see if that fixes the issue

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear you're having this issue. I believe you are experiencing the DHCP issue, I would suggest you do try the beta as it may help to resolve the issue, if not then I think we're still looking into it. https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-DumaOS-3-0/bd-p/en-home-beta-npg-duma
