jordanp05
I have multiple issues with this router since buying. Same problems with XR500 and I thought upgrading would help but really I've wasted $400. I'm to the point I just need to sell this router and move on from netgear/netduma. I have tried it with 2 ISP: Spectrum 940 mbps down/40 up. Windstream 950 mbps down/ 950 up. I play only 2 games NHL 20 and Call of Duty. Also play some Madden and Battlefield on occasion. 1. Geo filter not working on MW - have it set within the NY and Atlanta COD servers and can never find a game. Can't use geofilter for NHL bc the closest server shows up in California when I'm in NC (think it's EA's horrible server issue not netgear/netduma). 2. Ping assist does not work - I have it set to 45 and have tried 30 up to 50 but but constantly get games 55-70ms which are delayed. 3. Bufferbloat - with my XR700 it reads 300+ms regularly without using qos. Setting qos to 70 gives me an A rating on bufferbloat but it causes more delay/lag in my games than with it off. My ISP router is garbage and reads 25-75ms bufferbloat and a B rating and works great for COD but I can't ever connect less than 50 ping. 4. Delay in games - EA NHL 20 is unplayable due to delay with this router. Have tried upnp on/off, port forwarding nhl specific ports, dmz, different DNS, qos on/off and set to numerous values but still too delayed/laggy to play this game online. With qos on in general the game is just not playable online (so delayed, skate and shoot half speed as the opponent). Game works ok with my isp router it still has delay and only works with upnp off but it's better than the netgear. Multiple other issues I just don't know what else to do but sell this since my ISP router seems to at least be somewhat playable as bad as it is. I would not run buffer bloat tests, for me personally that site has not been accurate for a while. You mainly have to go with your in game experience. And if you want to test your network congestion and how your router handles. Get 3-4 streams going on your home network, then download ping plotter and ping google.com.. Watch to see if your latency stays consistent or if you have any spikes.
Guest Killhippie
There are lots of great Netgear routers out there, sadly the XR700 and XR500 do seem to have there issues, I would not personally have bought another XR model, the R9000 would have suited your needs with possibly less issues at this time. Best to wait for DumaOS 3.0 as there is a lack of patches right now.
Administrators Netduma Alex Posted March 31, 2020 Administrators Share Posted March 31, 2020 Welcome to the forum, and sorry to hear that you're having so many issues. I'm going to go through your post point-by-point and try and offer some solutions. On 3/30/2020 at 5:35 AM, jordanp05 said: 1. If it's a console, does your device type appear correctly in Device Manager? Is the icon a controller? It needs to be recognised as a console for the detection to work correctly. Regarding NHL, the server that shows up in California might be an authentication server. This is almost certainly the case if the server has a circle around it. Authentication servers are used for verifying purchases and such on the modes that have microtransactions, and the distance to this server hopefully won't affect your game once you actually get into matchmaking. The Geo-Filter usually works a lot better in the "free play" style modes where there is no team building, card packs or that stuff. This is because the free play mode isn't as tightly controlled, and isn't routed through EA's servers. On 3/30/2020 at 5:35 AM, jordanp05 said: 2. It's possible that your connection is unstable, or that other devices in your house are causing spikes. I would recommend testing with something like PingPlotter to see if your connection is spiking on a regular basis. There's a guide here: https://forum.netduma.com/topic/23881-ping-plotter-quick-guide/ On 3/30/2020 at 5:35 AM, jordanp05 said: 3. DumaOS's anti-bufferbloat is known to be incompatible with the dslreports test. We don't use the usual anti-bufferbloat technology that other QoS systems use, we have a custom, in house method. Anyway the idea with anti-bufferbloat is to use it in conjunction with Traffic Prioritization, so that when traffic begins to queue, the important stuff will be pushed to the front. Depending on the speed of your connection, this might not be nessercary. On 3/30/2020 at 5:35 AM, jordanp05 said: 4. Delay in games - EA NHL 20 is unplayable due to delay with this router. Perhaps the DumaOS Classified Games profile is prioritizing the wrong packets, which is making your games feel delayed. My recommendation would be to disable the DumaOS Classified Games profile and instead make a custom profile for the game you're playing. If the profile you need isn't there (updates are coming in 3.0 which will expand the list) you can instead use the advanced tab to specify specific ports. What I would suggest for now, if you're playing on a console, is to choose your console and the Games Console profile in Traffic Prio and see how that does.
