Jlman3705
When trying to use a specific DNS provider the router still includes my ISP DNS. Is this a bug?
Administrators Netduma Admin Posted November 3, 2018 Administrators Share Posted November 3, 2018 Not one I am aware of. Where are you seeing that the DNS has not been overridden? Also whose DNS are you using ?
Jlman3705
Sorry if this is normal. I've tried Google, Open DNS, and another Comcast DNS that's faster when running GRC Benchmark. It seems to pick up the new DNS, but also says it's using my providers DNS which is Comcast 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.76.76. After changing my DNS and using Pingplotter my first hops are routing through what seems to be Comcasts DNS. Is it normal to use the providers hops first, every time? I am new to Pingplotter and still trying to learn if I can lower my base ping.
Administrators Netduma Admin Posted November 4, 2018 Administrators Share Posted November 4, 2018 DNS is the service that converts IP addresses (e.g. 8.8.8.8) into domain names (e.g. Google.com). It will not have any impact on your game ping. The answers in this thread explain this very well.
