Jae-3soteric
Hi all, I run a media server on my network with Sabnzbd, Couch-Potato and Sickbeard. All the programs work fine on the media server with a wired connection to the R1. The problem comes when trying to connect from another computer either on the network or externally. I've added the IP/TCP/UDP/Port details to the port forwarding options using the IP address displayed in the device manager for my media server. The result is that there is no access internally when using the <internal IP>:<Port> details for the program running on the media server. there is also no connection when i try and connect externally using the <external IP>:<Port>. What am I missing?
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted June 21, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted June 21, 2015 Is the Netduma in the other router's DMZ? Also, if your using a media server, go to Settings >> Miscellaneous and make sure that multicast snooping is enabled as I think that this is used with media servers
Jae-3soteric
Thanks Crossy - no it isn't in the DMZ - I'll give that a try now

Jae-3soteric
So another quick question ( a silly one I might add)... How do i Identify the R1's IP address on the Virgin Media hub to add it to the DMZ? I've turned it back into full Router and Modem mode - but the R1 even though its hard wired isnt showing as connected to the Hub...
Zennon
Found here http://wiki.netduma.com/doku.php?id=how_do_i_open_my_nat&s[]=nat It is the wan ip.

This is the number you would put into the Virgin media DMZ But if you are in modem mode you won't need to do this.
Jae-3soteric
So my WAN IP is showing as my actual fibre connections IP address - in the DMZ settings page on the Hub I can only input the final digit set - i.e. it has to start with 192.168.0.X - where the X is the only set I can change... Zennon
Modem mode would be the best way to set this up if you switch back you wont have to DMZ like Crossy says.
Jae-3soteric
ok so my setup is: 1 - Super Hub - Modem Only mode 2 - R1 as router with ports forwarded for media server 3 - Media Server - wired Still can't connect internally or externally on the ports I've opened on my actual IP address:port, nor internally when specifying the device IP:port? Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted June 21, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted June 21, 2015 Just to check, did this work when you were connected to the Virgin Hub?
Jae-3soteric
Yep with the virgin hub alone running as modem and router it works fine
Netduma Staff Netduma Crossy Posted June 21, 2015 Netduma Staff Share Posted June 21, 2015 In your OP you said that "All the programs work fine on the media server with a wired connection to the R1". Could you explain when and when you can't connect to the media server please because from that it sounds like under some circumstances you can connect
Jae-3soteric
ok - so the media server has a monitor attached - I can use that system to run the programs just fine - and they can access the internet just fine with the setup documented in post 10. As the media server just sits there i tend to access the programs remotely - either on my phone or laptop - sometimes whilst connected to my home network, sometimes externally. With the hub acting as router and modem and the port forwarding rules setup on the hub everything works. With the hub as just modem, and the R1 as router with port forwarding setup on the R1 I can't access over the network internally when using the device IP and the program port, or over the internet externally using my ISP provided IP and the port for the program. From one of the PCs, can you go to a command prompt, and ping the IP of the media server. To do this type in 'ping ' with '' being the IP. E.g ping '192.168.88.10'. Then paste the output here

Jae-3soteric
Ok - guys so I fixed it - stupidly the mediaserver didnt recognise the new network as a friendly one - I've logged in and accepted the network into its list of shares and the internal access is now working. Apologies for my stupidity and wasting your time on this one!!
