Guys why when i change the Wan DNS servers do all devices still show 192.168.88.1 ?

I might be misunderstanding your question Raddy but i think you have to manually input the dns server you want into each device.

I think using the default gateway as the DNS (as it does by default) is just another way of saying you're using whatever DNS servers the router says it should be using. Keeping it at 192.168.88.1 on the device (I'm assuming you're seeing that on a console connection test) should be the same as changing it manually.

 

If I manually set mine on the R1 to 81.139.56.100 and 81.139.57.100 as my modem already shows for BT, I'll still see 192.168.88.1 on a PS4 connection test. I think it's just an easy way of forwarding what are usually highly variable numbers; a "translation" of sorts.

Have you also approved to change the DNS values in the LAN section?

Try changing the values in both the Wan and the Lan section and then restarting the netduma from miscellaneous and also restart the devices.

Yeah pretty much. I think it's just a way to make setting networks on devices up more simply.

 

Funny enough if I check my modem says 81.139.57.100 and 81.139.56.100 DNS in use, input that manually on my R1, and then again on my PS4, I don't get a connection. But if I leave it as 192.168.88.1 on the PS4 it does. Or I can use totally mismatched DNS (81.139.57.100/81.139.56.100 on R1 and 8.8.88/8.8.4.4 on PS4) and that works too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you don't manually change the DNS servers on each device, i.e.you leave it on "Obtain DNS server address automatically," then you'll see the DHCP server as your DNS. If you want to check what actual DNS server is being used to resolve the hostname then you can run ipconfig /all rather than ipconfig.
