Nat filtering/upnp

Hey guys,

I have my setup as modem>xr500>R1(dmz)>Asus rtac87r(ap mode).  I was looking at the NAT config of the xr500 and noticed that is had 2 options:  secured and open. Which one should be ticked? And btw is this NAT acceleration because I like to disable NAT acceleration which seems to be better for gaming.

Also with my R1 being in the dmz of the xr500, do I need to enable/disable UPnP and/or UPnP Forwarding on the R1 for it to function properly in the dmz of the xr500? Thanks for such a great product!!!

To be honest I don't know what the option does, I would suggest using the help boxes on the Settings page that has that option it should tell you what it does or instead make a post on their forum https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-Pro-Gaming-Routers/bd-p/en-home-nighthawk-pro-gaming-routers

or give them a call https://www.netgear.com/support/contact.aspxand I'm sure they'll be able to give you a recommendation of if its beneficial to use the option or not.

Leave UPnP or port forwarding enabled on the R1 don't do both though. Glad to hear you're enjoying it!

What about the UPnP forwarding option under the miscellaneous settings page...should it be ticked or unticked?

I would leave that disabled as it doesn’t need to try and open any ports on the upstream router since it’s in the DMZ
