Considering purchasing a Netduma R1

Hey guys,

I am considering buying a Netduma R1, Just a few questions if anyone can help.

I am based in the UK, my current connection speed is 75Mbps down and 5Mbps up, and I use an ISP modem with my own router (TP-Link TL-WDR3600), which is pretty featureless however it does support 5Ghz wireless. The wireless frequency doesn't affect me too much as I only use the Wi-fi for my phone and android TV box which is situated in the same room. I am the only one using the internet connection in my residence so the QoS type features won't have much impact from what I can tell.

Are there other features on this router which would benefit me for gaming mainly?

Are the features of this router mainly targeted at console games which use P2P hosts as opposed to dedicated servers? I play both PS4 and PC games. BF1 on console, CS:GO on PC at the moment, potentially Call of Duty on PS4 too when WW1 drops.

I know the DumaOS is on it's way so there could be potentially even more features available but from the current status would it be worth investing in a Netduma? and what benefits does it have compared with another high spec router?

Thanks in advance.

OK, first off most popular fps games use dedicated servers.

If you rerally needed 5ghz wifi you could use your existing router as an access point plugged into the duma.

Sometimes wifi devices can cause ping spikes by updating something in the background even when you are not aware of it. Congestion control will help solve this issue.

I have owned many routers over the years and looked at this and really thought it was to good to be true. Asked a few questions and was still a bit concerned about it but after purchase I have never been more than pleased with it.

If you are buying this because you saw saw some youtube guy drop a nuke with one etc and you think you will do this every game by buying it you are going to be disappointed.

But if like most people here you game most days and want that little edge and to be safe in the knowledge that you have done everything possible on your end to maximise your connection then The R1 is for you.

It wont however stop other people with high ping etc connecting to a dedicated server but you can temp ban dedi's

Hope that helps, anymore questions please feel free to ask.

Hey, welcome to the forum!

Bagsta has given you some great advice. We have host analysis so you can go back and see how the connection fluctuated over the duration of the game - this is for PC only. We'll be supporting more games in the future, we're working on the next iteration of our software that will be bigger and better than our existing one.
