Mas7er Broda
Hi all! I'll be setting up my 'Duma R1 this afternoon and have read up on how to hook up the R1 with the quantum gateway router/modem. My gaming room is not in the same room as the ONT and the technicians did not install Ethernet from the ONT to the gateway router, the opted for the coaxial connections since the apartment was already wired that way. What suggestions do you have to get the best out of the R1? my internet is 100 download 100 upload and my latency (per xbox one network diagnostic) is 80ms. The 80ms seems high to me and I've called Verizon about it but they said that it is good. I would like my ping/latency to be around 40-50ms and am hoping I can achieve this with the R1 router. I mainly play COD and Destiny so I would like my R1 optimized for those two games. Any input you can give me on the hookup would be appreciated. I'm not very Network savy so I have to typically look up what the acronyms mean, so keep that in mind. Thanks! My home Networks consists of: Two Laptops Two Smartphones One ipad One PS4 One Xbox one One Smart TV
II N3MES1S II
The 80ms ping is microsofts servers, that will never really change for you. Mine has always been 40-44ms to microsoft servers. Adusjting the ping assist and geo filter will get you into better game server lobbies.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 20, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 20, 2016 Hey, welcome to the forum! You'll need to connect the R1 to the gateway router then, then connect all devices to the R1. I'm assuming that your TV service & phone will need to continue to stay connected to the gateway which should be fine but all other devices should connect to the R1 via ethernet or WiFi. I'm not sure where your gaming room is compared to the other devices in your home or if you could run a long ethernet cable into the room from the R1. Otherwise would look into powerline adapters to extend the wired functionality of your home. That ping I've found is always high. That is not the ping you need to worry about as that is not the ping you will have to the game. Then recommend 70/70 anti-flood, console(s) in hyper traffic. ~1000km radius, strict on, ping assist 0. Mas7er Broda
Thank you! I did exactly as directed and everything worked great! The only issue I have come across so far is that my NAT is now moderate. I have created another thread about that issue but basically I have my DUMA IP in my FIOS routers DMZ but that didn't change the NAT.
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted December 22, 2016 Administrators Share Posted December 22, 2016 Great to hear that! I'll close this thread then and answer your NAT issue in the other one
