Port Forwarding issue

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Recently I wanted to host a Server for Terraria, a game for PC, so I could play with a friend.

To do that, I know that I need to port forward the game's port, or my friend won't be able to join.

First issue: I already have one portforward rule on my Netduma, which is the PS4 DMZ (All ports opened). If I try to add another entry, it says that "there is already a rule that covers those ports". I found out that I can only add one rule at a time... or it will give me that message.

Second issue: Even after removing my PS4 portforward rule, and adding the one for my game (7777 UDP & TCP), my friend is not able to join.

Any suggestions? Can I really add one rule at a time?

ps. Yes I know that I need to give him my public IP... I've read some guides on this.

I did not reboot anything after enabling port forward, I think there is no need to do so.

My setup is (If it can help): // Wall // ISP modem // Netduma (connected with PPPoE) // Router (Bridge mode) // my PC or console

Also, my PS4 gets open nat when I enable the DMZ... so port forwarding is (should be?) working.

Thanks for any replies :)

I'm kind of confused, does your port forwarding rule on the R1 range from 1024-65000 for example? If so that's not exactly DMZ. You'd need to put the R1 WAN IP from the duma device manager in the DMZ section of your ISP hub.

If that is the case then yes you cannot forward anything to a port in that range because you've already said anything coming in on that port is going to the PS4.

Do you have your PC enabled on the Geo-filter? If so then that is why your friend is not able to join. It could also be the DMZ issue if you didn't put the WAN IP into the ISP hub.

My port range to enable the DMZ is 1-65535.

I know it's not exactly DMZ but my ISP modem sucks and it does not even have a DMZ option or Upnp (in fact it does not have any options for anything except port forwarding), so I need to do it like this. I could port forward 1-65535 on my R1 WAN IP, but I disabled NAT and all the other functions on my ISP modem because of my Destiny issue, remember? ;)

Anyway, so you're telling me that if I enable that rule for my PS4, I can't enable any other rules on any other device? I don't know much about network so... that could be an explanation.

Also my PC does not have Geo Filter enabled, but that would not be a problem anyway because my friend lives 500m away from me :P

--Edit--

I removed my PS4 "DMZ" rule, and I enabled the one for the port 7777.

I used this website ---> http://www.whatsmyip.org/port-scanner/

It says "Port timed out", not "port closed". What could that mean?

--Another edit--

I removed that rule, so there are no rules enabled right now and it says "port open". What the hell...?!

--Edit again--

Dude I just found out that all my PC, my laptop and my phone all share the same public ip O.o is that normal? And on the device manager, on the WAN IP it gives me my public IP. (It's the same ip that I get from whatsmyip).

Also, when I enable any rule on any device, it says "Timed out" on the test.

Example: I opened the port 1234 on my PS4 Ip, then did the test on my PC and it says "Timed out".

How does this work? I can't open any port without getting the timed out message.

I also think that I have an explanation for the port 7777. When I created the server, it asked me if I wanted it to open the ports automatically. I answered yes.

How did it open the port? Where can I find that entry? My Upnp is disabled (at least from the netduma).

Just give me a suggestion on this, I am out of ideas.

I have my ISP modem, my netduma, and a router that I need to continue to use, because my room is too far away from the ISP modem.

How can I connect these 3 DISABLING all the functions (NAT and everything) on my ISP modem, and keeping the netduma functions enabled?

If I disable NAT on my ISP modem it will become useless... that's why it needs the netduma (or another router) to work.

Can I do this... ISP modem > Router > Netduma? Will my situation improve?

Right now is ISP modem > Netduma > Router

As it is a modem that is absolutely fine as it should just pass everything through to the duma. Remove any port forwarding rules on the modem. This way you don't need to do that huge port forwarding rule on the duma.

Yes that's right.

It sounds like you may have stealth mode enabled in miscellaneous settings - it makes you not pingable so disable this.

Thats because the modem is just passing everything to the modem I believe.

Yes that is absolutely normal, every device in your home will have the same public IP - they have different local IPs. Yes as you have a modem the WAN IP is your public IP.

You're opening a port on a different device to the one you're doing the test on so it will fail. That will be server side port forwarding - I can't advise on that.

I would leave the current setup. I don't know if the server is running off a PC in your home or what but you will need to port forward for that specific device.

Thanks for answering all my questions dude :)

I think I am just going to change my modem for a better one, that way I can enable DMZ and hopefully I will have much less problems.

I will keep the ISP > Netduma > Router setup.

Thanks and regards
