DumaRocks
Been struggling to figure out if chasing my ISP is worth it. Right now I have Comcast with an avg of 50 down and 12 up. It is cable so everything I read says it should be inconsistent but I don't see the inconsistencies with the connection except and only except when I am connecting to COD servers. Not sure if it is just more obvious or it is just 100% COD servers causing the issues.Anyway, the only other option I have in my area is AT&T Uverse. I am not in the gigapower area so from what I can tell, I will not receive a true 100% fiber connection, I will still be limited to at least a partial copper connection although that is not what the guy at AT&T told me, of course not. He said the servers I would connect to are local but couldn't tell me where, so you don't know? LOLThe package I would get would be 24 Down and 6 Up which from my understanding is sufficient for gaming even if it is a downgrade from my current speed. The positive factor is I would get a dedicated line so I would not be subject to congestion and since I am the only on that would use this line, that would not be an issue.Anyway, just looking to see if anyone uses Uverse and/or those that use Comcast if you have any opinions on this. I would also be interested to hear anyone's thoughts on this since some of the older reviews, from a couple of years ago, made it sound like you couldn't use another router like Netduma, not sure if that is true or not.For what it is worth, I am in Midwest US. Would love other input even though I realize location can and will play a big role in the experience of the provider.
Slipknot31286sic6
Xfinity all the way. Fuck att for Internet. I got the 150 xtreme. Worth it 90 a month. Get ur self tc-7620 modem. It'd night n day. Was using Motorola junk. I get 150/24 with 98/98cc A+ buffer bloat. 180/25 full connection. 17 to 30 ms ping.
iAmMoDBoX
What he ^^^^^ said.... I would pick Comcast over AT&T for home internet. Although is DSL is an option from another company such as Verizon, go with that as a dedicated gaming line.
DumaRocks
Xfinity all the way. Fuck att for Internet. I got the 150 xtreme. Worth it 90 a month. Get ur self tc-7620 modem. It'd night n day. Was using Motorola junk. I get 150/24 with 98/98cc A+ buffer bloat. 180/25 full connection. 17 to 30 ms ping. Thanks for the suggestion. I have considered the default modem that came from Comcast might be a bit outdated and probably basic. I do of course have the duma but what your saying is that modem also made a big difference for you. I realize ping is based on location and not everyone will receive same or equal results but with your measurements on latency do you believe the upgraded modem improved latency significantly or was it just more stable. If it did improve, roughly how much assuming you measured it before and after, just curious more than anything else. Would consider replacing my modem if I thought it would help a little bit. I don't know much about modems but the one I have is the xfinity Technicolor TC8305C and believe it is about 3 or 4 years old from time of installation, never replaced it since they initially installed it. My duma ping is consistently 20ms to 22ms when I run the internet diagnosis. On good games it seems I ping COD servers at around 35ms plus but that has many many spikes and lately it seems those pings are higher like starting at 45ms or so and that is when connecting to the same dedi's. The really noticeable lags seem start when I get into the 65ms plus not to mention when I start pinging in the range that is when I start noticing more spikes. DSLReports gives me an A+/A+ buffer bloat when I have my duma settings at 85/95 cc, does it at other settings as well but that is where I left it at. I think that is where I noticed the minimum +buffer when looking at that little meter jumping. Not convinced any of my problems are my connection but just looking at other options to try to improve even more if at all possible.
Slipknot31286sic6
Well comcast is cable so jitter is there no matter. What 70-70cc gives least jitter but I didn't think it changed game play. No game plays same twice. But try 70/70 cc see if it helps for u. I run 98/98. Everyones is different. Yes modem helped with constant ping and download speeds dont fluctuate either steady avg 22MB per second. It's sexy lol. Bo3 is never consistent don't base anything off it. Sadly that's all I play. Netduma made game better again but can't fix it
fuzzy clam
Go with a DSL AT&T as a dedicated gaming line, cable has way to much jitter depending on why your neighbors are doing.I still have cable but not for gaming, it runs the rest of the house but gaming is done on ADSL and is a huge improvement over cable.I like the cable speeds but not the bullshit that goes with it. Some have no issues with cable but I did and it was due to severe node overload from my ISP as they oversold in my area (everyone's area probably) and the jitter was brutal and they would do nothing to acknowledge or fix the issue. So I went the route I thought was best.
