ColonicBoom
If we are being completely honest, I believe the main thing that is fueling all the futuristic hate is... Nostalgia. Posit this: -Most of the original fans who started with MW, MW2 were teens. Fast forward almost 10 years later and those players are now in their early to mid-20s. This means they (hopefully) have more responsibilities going on in their lives which means less time to game. -Having less time to game means wanting a game that is easy to pick up and play with minimal effort. The newer CoDs are the exact OPPOSITE of this with all the vertical movement, specialist abilities, etc. So, this frustrates some older gamers because now they can't jump in and wreck people like they used to. It's the actual kids who do the wrecking now, just like the adult players used to do almost 10 years ago. -Another part of not being able to pub stomp is as players age, their reflexes diminish. Nobody wants to admit this, but as you get older, your reflexes slow down. Period. No iffs, ands or butts. So, again, couple this with the advanced vertical movement and a lot of older players simply can't compete with the younger, faster and more die hard players who can game eight hours a day, or more. Nostalgia, some of it perhaps, but it could also be that a lot of people found the old CoDs were simply more fun without the jetpacks and stuff... Especially if you enjoyed a good long snipe-from-the-grass on Overgrown, just waiting for that happy-go-lucky head to go bobbing past in the distance. The old CoDs seemed to cater to more playing styles, all weapon classes and perks had their place, most maps could be played in a variety of ways. I feel like more stealth and tactics (without being a total camper) could be employed, anyone remember "They're all inside Grandma's house", "Two snipers camping the propane tanks", "One under the stone bridge", "Stick a claymore in the coffee shop doorway". etc. Now what do we say? (most of the time nobody says anything at all on Xbox). "They're in the umm.., by the round thing, er, you know that generic looking lump that looks like every other part of this map. They're all at the other end of the map now". On Evac I heard "he's on that thing you can get on" and on Redwood "he's behind the tree". If you don't know the Dom/Bomb locations then you'll know exactly what I mean. On the old CoDs, if you went SMG Banzai across the field on Overgrown (or any open-space equivalent), sprinting and jumping towards any average sniper they would blow your head off every time. If you did the same to an AR user then they'd also take your head off easily - the SMGs just couldn't reach the distance needed and you'd have to be damn good with the SMGs and dodging to even have a chance. Yet in the new CoDs the SMG is nearly always king, on all maps, at pretty much any distance. And it gets really boring really quickly. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy BO3 (honestly) but it's not CoD, it's just 'tiny map*, runny, jumpy, slidey, smg bang bang'. I can't even think about Advanced Warfare because I hated that with a passion. *I know the maps probably aren't any smaller but when you can traverse the map in 10 seconds they certainly seem smaller, especially when an smg can kill you from half the map away by any noob waving it about. I totally agree about having less time to game and that the lack of practice will have a detrimental affect. But if someone played CoD4 when aged 14 then I don't agree that our reactions will have deteriorated by 23. Even less so if someone started with MW2 as it was only 7 years ago. I will concede that if someone was 30+ playing CoD4 then their reactions could well have slowed to an extent in 10 years. Obviously if someone hammers the sauce like Georgie Best then reactions will inevitably suffer (a lot). Also not sure I agree about the games being harder now, I might even suggest that they games have been made easier (or require less skill to excel at least), people may well disagree with me but I really feel like these games are more forgiving now. Auto-aim in CoDs is immense now, try turning it off and see how you get on. I always turn it off as soon as I start playing but I've had to put it back on in BO3 because all the thumbless scrotes are being 'gifted' auto-aim kills on my face. Then there's the specialist weapons and abilites that you can still earn even if you've gone 0-10 in the first minute of the game and with that specialist weapon you can take out the best player in the world (and anyone near them) without any skill whatsoever. How often did we used to see a low KD player beast the lobby by 40-5 in the old games? Never. If they camped hard with claymores and the other noobs repeatedly rushed them they could get a decent score but in general gameplay it never happened. In BO3? Several times per gaming session. Why? I've got no idea. My stats are far better on this game than on any other previous CoD, even though I have less time to play it, so I obviously find it easier. But I would drop this game in a heartbeat if CoD4/MW2/MW3 were available on Xbox One and there were enough people to play against. I also think the added speed of the later games has exposed the connection problems that a lot of people suffer, we all used to think our connections were shit hot. Now we know our connections are actually just a bit shit.
ColonicBoom
So, I believe including MW Remastered is not a good move (overall) because they are doing exactly what they should not be doing IMO, trying to keep an aging player base that is going to leave the game at some point anyway due to numerous reasons. Surely it's exactly the right move, if it works they will be keeping the ageing player base of the old games while also attracting a new generation..? I may be cynical but I reckon they're in it to make as much money as they can.
AsNCo
As a Sci-Fi fan, I appreciate that a game as good as COD is making it. There are not many games out there that delve into the world of Sci-Fi with an awesome spaceship as your base of command. Mass Effect series was something I truly like. What I appreciate more right now is that I am getting both a very Sci-Fi oriented COD game and a World War 1 Battlefield game. Battlefield truly capture the essence of WW1 + the gorgeous lush forests is truly a sight to behold. And COD is going to have out of this world map. Literally. It is sad that not many people appreciate the Sci-Fi genre much. I can't wait for interesting killstreaks. "Enemy bombardment from space inbound!" as you see streaks of rockets fire down from the spaceship that is in orbit. As a gamer, I feel extremely lucky to be able to play these 2 games in the months to come. My issue is that we don't yet have a proper CoD that's not futuristic on this generation but happily Battelfield 1 (or whatever it's called) might address that and CoD4 remastered definitely will. I like future shooters, I just don't want EVERY game to have jetpacks and the devs of CoD seem to think we all do. But yeh, the scorestreaks could be epic! procreate
Strange how Bops 3 is so popular but people do not like the movement going forward in to the next game. not really... CoD is STILL on the decline from its heyday [MW2>BO1>MW3] http://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculations/2015/12/18/can-call-of-duty-black-ops-iii-outpace-the-performance-of-previous-black-ops-titles/#7445e4602a9d The interesting fact to notice is that the four weeks sales of Black Ops III is still the lowest compared to the previous two Black Ops titles.
