Modem technical help

Hi All

I wonder if somebody could help me understand the attached modem stats , I obviously understand the download and upload but not sure on the others . The noise part shows 6.1bd is that good or bad ? I know noise on the line can cause issues . Also the attuention thing ?

I have 79 collisions ! That can't be good right ? For the record I am with Sky Fibre with an average ping of 35 maybe sone issues here that could improve the ping ?

Any experts around I would appreciate your thoughts

Thanks guys

Found an answer to your question on a forum :)

"The line attenuation is a measurement of how much signal is lost between either the exchange on ADSL2+ and the cabinet in the case of fibre VDSL2 and your house. The lower the figure for attenuation the better in both cases.

The noise margin is a measurement of how far the signal is above noise, the higher the figure the better."

Im on Sky Fibre and am getting a 11ms ping id say 35 for Fibre is a bit high, also HERE is a good bit of info about you question.

Yes attenuation is the line lengh from either the exchange or the cabinet

You have 79 resent packets becuase of errors out of 48546923 which is a drop in the ocean so i wouldnt worry about that.

Your noise margin is normal at 6db

But you are definatly on inlerleaving with a ping of 35ms you line look's stable on this profile did you notice any disconections in the past or errors that would make the dynamic line management step in and put you on an interleaved profile.

Also as a side note BT are rolling out G.INP which is like interleaving on the fly, now ECI modems have been having trouble on Huewei cabinets.

You will find a picture of the cabs here to distinguish yours.

Huawei modems are working if you have the latest unlocked firmware or if you have a standard bt locked one ( it will be pushed the upgrade by BT)

Mine is a Huawei cab and i had a Huawei unlocked with old FW and it made made my line interleaved as it was not compatable and  resulting in a 32ms ping

I flashed to the lastest FW and straight away i was back on fast path 16ms.

ECI modems on Huawei cabs has the same result hi latency because the modems wont upgrade.

I had trouble if you remember and got Sky to send out a BT engineer, i asked  him to get a full line reset which he did and now am a lot better off with speeds and ping. I also was on interleaved for a while and read somewhere that turn off and unplug your Sky router for around half an hour then give it a hard reset, i was told this can flush the routers cache and usually results in a higher re-sync and gets you on fastpath quicker as DLM does not recognise the power out as a fault. Also try not to frequently re-boot or re-set your router as this will result in DLM kicking in and starting all over again.

Right so it's a combined modem/router then , sky of course went off on a tangent but it might help somebody else haha.

Yes a turn off for over half an hour may result in the firmware being updated if it is a G. Inp issue.

It can also help in normal situations to as Raddy points out :)
