SmallCaps
Friends of anti-lag! I can understand that restarting your internet equipment is equal to starting "fresh". But, is there any scientific reasoning behind restarting your modem/router to combat lag? if so, how often is most effective from a technical standpoint? UK_Wildcats_Fans
Modems and routers are in essence computers. As we know with computers, over time things happen and you have to restart them when running slow to clear issues, memory leaks, hung processes, errors, etc. Also, modems are often sync'ed to ISP which push firmware updates. Therefore, it is good to restart the modem and routers every so often. I personally reset them before playing games such as BO3 or at least once a week. zombitroid
There is something called memory which is stored in routers. This memory is made up of various objects your router must keep track of, such as old Ip addresses, port configurations, system logs, and system data logs. Every time you reset your router it clears up this old memory, making your router as you said, fresher, and ultimately faster. In terms of gaming though, its not too big of a deal, as you are probably only clearing enough memory and other junk to lower your ping by a millisecond or so. Thus its good to do but not necessary. Resetting your router is mainly used for troubleshooting purposes. Like maybe your speeds are slow or you cant connect to the internet. A lot of the time resetting the router fixes this. Good luck! RADDY1993
Just to make you aware that if you keep re-setting/re-starting your modem or router after a while DLM will grab you by the balls and send you to the land of interleaving which will give you a high ping amongst other things.
