Also my NIC is the onboard Realtek, my work macbook seems to even load pages faster than my gaming PC does. MY coworker suggested that this could be just better harmony with all the parts and OS that mac uses than a gaming PC, but it is an intel based NIC as opposed to a Realtek, and im not sure if that makes any difference or not.

Right, its super stable, thats the crazy part. Is it legitimately possible that the "packet loss" is just due to the hop not replying back? I think I might have to give that a go honestly with drawing around some further servers, as it seems like low latency (to NY) has not been a good result, or sometimes mixed really. Also, the Constantcompany-ic382520.ip.twelve99-cust.net would just be the point at which twelve99 peers (directly) with choopa right? Same with the other traceroute that shows the NYIIX? ' I tried to yell at the ISP, and all they could really tell me is "our network is optimized and we dont see any issues", granted this is a dedicated business line, so I got my hopes up thinking, sure, cod will run flawlessly, it has to right? They also tried to blame my NIC card, saying during their layer 4 "true speed test" I assume the one that tests the speeds from the service switch to their CO, they saw less than 1% of TCP retries, directly connected to the switch of course. Thanks for any and all replies Fraser!

Does smart boost "gaming" priority also work on PC, or just console? I have a 200/200 dedicated fiber circuit from local ISP. Not really any jitter or latency on the line (traceroutes etc. included). Does Smartboost gaming apply to PC, or would I have to set my device icon as a console for it to kick in properly? Is it tracked by ports etc? Just trying to dial in the hit detection as it still does not seem as good as it should be considering the fiber I have is probably better than what else I can get for my area. Speed tests often show 270 DL/185 UL to most servers, but should I ignore that and try to stick closer to what my ISP applied as my "line rate"? Its a little confusing, as I know a dedicated circuit technically has an active connection all the time compared to residential, but I can imagine that does not mean that it cant ever be a victim to BB sometimes (maybe just a little harder to do). Does anyone have tips specifically for getting best hit detection on PC specifically, even Bios or NIC settings if applicable. Just curious to see what worked for people out there. I have already enabled XMP/EXPO, so ram speeds are max, and low latency mode is enabled (recently) to get timings as low as possible. All drivers updated. PC is a 7800X3D and 4080S so can push up to 240 FPS, which maybe helps a very small amount due to more updated frames, but as we know, it has more to do with the net side since even console players are still killing me fast at lower. A few traceroutes to some COD servers as observed/pulled in resource monitor, as well as a couple generic sites showing stability (also seen in traceroutes). I just don't get why my bullets STILL sponge lol, its super frustrating. Any "packet loss" seen I think is simply just from the hop not replying if I'm not mistaken, since I have never seen packet loss in game or traceroutes or pings ever.

We told you! I gotta admit, the antibufferbloat of the Netduma is pretty wild, and does a really good job. You could probably even tighten up on the download and upload side a bit more and get a pure 0 and 0.

honestly wan/lan and pc

How good is the R3 at eliminating bufferboat?

were all here to try to help ya out -
I think it’s the latency spikes the servers are having lately. They have been REALLY bad. Ping spikes randomly, rubber banding etc.
-
Interesting. Wi-Fi speeds for me personally were BAD until the latest firmware update. Now everything actually feels how I expected. Speeds are normal too

Yes. I just got mine. Updated to latest firmware (version before that was pretty bad), let the router do its thing during the process. Latency was more stable, bufferbloat mitigation felt far better, geofilter was very consistent in getting New York server over and over every match. Pretty impressed so far. Wi-Fi speeds even got way better than the firmware before the update. Overall, not bad! -
What is the return policy with this router?

True. People do like free though lol -

Something that might prove useful, is you can use cloudflare DNS to help assist blocking malware and adult content (copied and pasted below), if thats something that is an issue. From what I just initially tested, it looks like you can google the site, but as soon as its clicked on, the web page does not load up, instantly goes to website not found, likely since it does not resolve the dns query. https://one.one.one.one/family/ Im not sure of the complexity of the R3, as mines out for delivery right now and have not had a chance to look at it. My guess is you could create a seperate wireless broadcast, subnet and Vlan tag for that network and assign the below DNS as an option. That way you could narrow down traffic more specifically, have more power over site filtering etc. In addition, you could do what Dark said also, and block sites that way. If I get access soon tonight, I can look things over and try to assist you as much as I can. I do remote/on site IT, so im pretty used to a bit of the network engineering piece. Hey there Mach3r, what kind of parental controls are you looking for? -
You need to test when wired, not wireless.
-
Dang you guys have some really jittery connections. Crazy how my bar is flat, and I still deal with BS issues too
-
I sent you a PM btw. Shipping address seems a little borked.

Yeah, realistically setting QoS on speeds well over 500 Mb/s isn't advised as it can actually cause more harm than good. From what I know from alot of streamer and youtubers I have seen, ATT is pretty solid as a Tier 1 ISP, so likely the only real advantages you can gain is just pinging to closer servers near you. I feel like often times I see ATT presence when theres a dedicated server nearby, since they are a MAJOR telecom company and can reach out to the rest of the internet.

I wonder if its just a loose or bad cable? Maybe one is just not seating properly as it should and the other does. Notice this happens sometimes with cables that have that rubber grommet on them and makes it harder to push them in completely.
-
Yeah thats on Sonys end, and theres nothing you can do about it unfortunately. Im like 99% sure Sony caps the speeds out.I had symetrical gig like you do, and when I ran a speed test from a PS5, I ended up with the same issues. Download wasn't to bad, but upload was chopped into pieces. I wouldn't get to worried over it, again as its something well out of anyones control. Not you, Netduma, or your ISP can change how fast it can go sadly. Its what made me switch back to xbox, and then eventually just realized everything was nicer on PC

This is true! I’m excited to start using it!

Does Quantum Fiber not offer a standalone ONT device? I would definitely call them up and ask, its honestly the better route to go. Do you have a ping plotter result? Would be curious to see. I would personally try bridged mode again, but power off the device and then connect the R3, kind of like you had to do with cable modems to bind the devices, not sure if this is the issue or not. Does your ISP have any restrictions when using your own equipment? Mine wanted to use my router/firewalls MAC address for auth, and without it I would get an IP address, but no actual internet. Is it possible to revert to the build prior to the 219? Factory reset the R3? Theres just so many different things you can test and check here, even including cabling (but I doubt thats the problem tbh). Last question, what other providers are in the area? I would stick to fiber exclusively as thats most likely going to yield the best results. ATT would be good if they exist, I have seen from many streamers big and small, those guys seems to be top notch.

It's been a longggg time since I ordered one of these, or used one for that matter (R1 back in black ops 3). I just placed my order for my R3, and i'm praying that everything works out with no issues/bugs, but some of these posts got me a little worried. Currently using a GT AX11000 and the hit detection has been super hit or miss. Despite having a 200/200 dedicated fiber business connection, things still suck from time to time. Applying QoS has certainly helped, but I am hoping (without to many issues) that the R3 can sort of close that gap with better QoS than what the Asus has, as well as packet priority. Find out here in a few days I suppose!

Thats not it. Im on PC and have played Xbox alot too. Its just the servers lagging. Happens even on ranked mode. Its just something thats cropped up as a big issues more so lately than ever.
-
Yeah a VPN for better routing is irrelevant, unless your ISP has some REALLY bad routing. Even then, the VPN is still useless unless you can get a vpn server that’s right where your ISP upstreams to. In the case of my old ISP, it was Cogent in Boston. I would need a VPN sever in Boston to even be useful.
-
Yes, this would be a dedicated line and not a shared line.

Ah okay. Seems like the AWS peering is likely the best, whereas the others are likely not as great. I’m assuming if you have close proximity to them, with fiber, it probably not bad. My current ISP hops over to another tier 1 to get to them though, which is likely why my experience isn’t as good as some. Other random thought. Let’s say I pay for a DIA/Enterprise line over a residential line. Are my packets likely to be more prioritized under those two types of connections compared to residential? I spoke with a local ISP that does Ethernet over fiber enterprise lines, for businesses of all sizes and bandwidth requirements, I’m assuming my connection for work and also (gaming of course) would likely be far superior to using a XGS-PON network structure my current ISP uses?
