OK I will do that. It may be some time before I report back! This is a once a week thing, not every day.

The XR1000 certainly has more powerful hardware than the R2, the benefit gained with the R2 is that it's the first platform we build new features for, so you'll always have the bleeding edge tech with the R2. Of course, these features are intended to trickle down to the NPG range shortly after.

I think the problem here is how the XR1000 I have determines whether something is online or not. It happily shows PC's but printers, switches and so on it includes on the diagram but always shows them as offline.

In general I do think it is not a great idea to update firmware unless you actually have a problem or desperately need a new feature.... If it works, don't fix it.
In passing, writing software takes no time at all. Testing and releasing a new version of software takes forever. Every possible consequence and effect of the change  has to be evaluated and tested. Any company worth it's salt will not take shortcuts. There are many ruined companies that did. THAT is why it takes a long time to release a new version.

I don't know whether DMZ actually bypasses anything ( other than security ). It does sound more like it needs a port setting up or something. I'm a router clutz but perhaps you could do this manually? I found this....

There is no setting for this unfortunately, it should stay logged in for at least 30 minutes if you're actively using it - it will time out quickly if you don't use it but its open.

So that's things like Zoom, Skype etc. The type is basically wireless QoS. I get what you mean about priority but it either has priority or it doesn't really. In most cases you're only adding a couple of devices to Traffic Prioritization so there isn't a need for most things to be prioritized. Is it trying to start the tour? Click the X top right of the box and it should stop appearing - if you have bookmarked the interface you may have bookmarked the tour URL.

    It's a tradeoff really.

Adding high, medium and low is not so simple as it requires at least 3 sending queues, one for each category. And since DumaOS attempts to QoS in both directions you would also need them on the LAN side.

Adding more queues simply degrades hardware performance as it requires stronger CPU's.

In this way, DumaOS basicly has 2 queues in each direction, what you add in traffic prio is high, rest is low.

These routers are meant for gamers, that have a PC and console and a few more devices. They are not meant for complex environments with loads of clients and a lot of services.

I repeated the experiment and couldn't get the Update button to fail. A one off then.

Nope. Still will not connect. "The connection has timed out".
I think I may just give up on this. It's not like it is critical but I would have liked to have accessed the modem to see what is going on in there, try different settings and so on, but it is just too time consuming if I can't directly access the modem.

VLAN/PPPoE can be configured on the XR if needed so that shouldn't cause a problem accessing the vigor. Set the Vigor to bridge mode https://www.draytek.co.uk/support/guides/kb-vigor-130-bridge?return=8567559 then see if you can access it when connected to the XR

The funny thing is that with my old Asus router, I could just talk right through the router to the modem's web interface.  I can't do that with the XR1000. I have noticed before that Netgear routers do not allow this for some reason but Asus do. The address of the 130 is 192.168.0.1 and the XR1000 is 192.168.1.1
I baffled as to why I can not talk to the 130.
And sorry for hijacking this post.

Harley got a reaction from Netduma Fraser in How is "Offline" defined?
Ah that makes sense. These are items like cameras, switches, printers and so on. I am guessing the reason the switch shows as offline is it's actually referring to the switch web page is offline rather than the switch itself ( it is a managed switch ).
It's not very important, I just wondered why they showed as offline.

Hopefully I have bypassed the problem now and will remember in future to move items before I block them!

Just in passing, I have heard of this issue happening with someone else. I don't know any more details but can confirm that it seems to be a problem.

It very much depends what you do with the device. If you are, for example, running a download of some form at the same time as playing a game, then yes you might need qos. But the far simpler option is to just turn background tasks off while you are playing games.

OK, I'll speak with the team and see if we can reproduce this.
