Steady Ping and Smartboost not working for Marvel Rivals
V1k1 replied to DaBoy98's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Maybe a Resync all button somewhere on the home page would be neat instead of going through each feature. Just a nice to have for end users in hopes the router can do such a resync across all features. Regarding PC as a "console", does the same work if I set our PCs to "Games Console" vs "Xbox" vs "Playstation"? Are all 3 of these the same? This helps explain more though, thank you. I would LOVE to be able to make a custom SmartBoost activity that I can name myself and apply the specific game ports to, then the router can prioritize that traffic/ports vs the Netduma team having to constantly update. Valorant posts their ports online - I'd love to just set a custom activity named "V1's Valorant Ports" and put the Valorant ports under it and set it to prioritize those over XYZ in Smartboost. This is just food for thought. I'd love to have some more customization/control in that sense so we can adjust to our needs sooner than waiting on updates. i know the above thread is more around geo-filter. Just thinking out loud! More techy users could definitely do this -
Steady Ping and Smartboost not working for Marvel Rivals
V1k1 replied to DaBoy98's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Fraser, in the Smartboost section, there's no option under the 3 dots to Resync cloud anymore. I used to see it on prior firmwares. I do see it for Geo-Filter - do these act independently if one is updated vs the other, or do we just need to click on resync cloud once wherever we find it and it applies to the router everywhere? EDIT: I'm also seeing you suggest more for users to set their gaming PC's as playstation vs "gaming console" - should users be following this? I play Marvel Rivals so i'll likely be trying this sooner or later. I'm sort of sitting on minimal settings as ping has been decent lately. -
big shout out to Fraser and the Netduma team. I received my warrantied replacement R3 and it's working as it should be. The new R3 is in the same spot as the old and using the same cables, etc, and the USB and Wifi bands are back. Old unit definitely had something internally wrong whether it was hardware or firmware related. I'm adding a TP-Link Deco router to my network so use as an AP to offload certain devices from the R3. R3 is primarily to manage the network overall and primarily used for the wired PCs for gaming. Internet -> Modem -> R3 -> Wired to our gaming PCs R3 -> Deco in AP mode -> Most Wifi Devices The idea is to use DumaOS features for the entire network. I'm wondering if there's any benefit to flipping the Deco with the R3 and let the R3 primarily manage the wired PCs and the Deco manage the rest (Internet -> Modem -> Deco -> R3 -> PCs). Would bufferbloat and QoS features not run as well / more likely to interrupt gaming?

Access Point Device Type in Device Manager

Thank you. Do you know any APs / products that work well with the R3 and dumaOS to handle higher wifi speeds and range? I wonder if a certain brand or model works very well with the R3 over another brand that may lack compatibility or features. -

Figured it was due to the 6ghz band. Is there any way to get the r3 to see this in its current state? I mean it technically is working/connected. or can this be added in firmware to recognize it to be online? I guess my concern is that if active devices using the 6ghz band are “offline” according to the r3, will they not receive Smartboost settings or traffic prioritization rules? Network activities show the laptop traffic, so will the R3 still prioritize work from home for my laptop or no because it’s “offline”? EDIT: Checked Smartboost and see my work laptop is showing as online, so I assume any rules I set to this device, it should still work. It may only be in the Device Manager Tree that this does not show up in. also, does anyone or the netduma team know of an AP that works really well with their software/R3? any luck with one product over another? -

Fraser, with the recent R3 wifi incident I had, I decided to try out some APs to help offload some of the Wifi from the R3 or at least use the AP for range and connect devices that are further from the router such as security cameras outside. I want the new one coming to not have to stress its wifi capabilities. I tried some unfamiliar brand, Ingabis, as a Wifi 6 range extender set into AP mode wired to the last LAN port on the R3. Internet -> modem (Surfboard arris) -> R3 -> AP -> wifi devices needing the range. Like discussed here, the AP is showing as wired, and any Wifi device connected to it then shows up as Wired on the R3 UI in Device Manager. So my iPhone 14 connected to the AP shows as wired via ethernet in the UI - It would be neat if we can force it on the Device Tree, but i don't mind if not. The AP i got is good but could be better for the range I was looking at. I then bought a Eero 6e Pro Amazon Router to use strictly as an AP wired to the R3. This has a 6GHz band on top of the 2.4 and 5. The Eero unfortunately doesn't allow you to separate the wifi bands, so I can only use one SSID and it flips between them what feels seamlessly. my iPhone in the same room gets around 600Mbps when connected to the Eero via wifi. Eero is set to bridge mode. It shows up as its own device on the R3 and shows my iPhone connected as wired to the R3 (since it's connected to the Eero). I understand that the AP will do this on the R3 UI (and it'd be great if we could change it somehow in the future). What shocked me is that I connected my work laptop via Wifi to the Eero - laptop indicates it's on the 6GHz band, but my laptop does not show up as wired or wireless on the R3 UI. It's nowhere to be seen in the Device Manager tree. If I check network activity, the laptop is there and shows active usage. So that makes sense there. It shows up on the Eero app, and i have 0 connection issues on my laptop now via AP (so far at least). Is there a reason the R3 isn't recognizing my work laptop in the device manager as it's connected to the 6GHz band via the AP? I checked other devices in the tree, and none match to the laptop (like it's not showing up under another name/IP). Does the R3 somehow not recognize if a device is connected to a 6GHz band on an AP? -
Thank you Fraser. Please see if they can get to this within a few days. It's already been some time without 5GHz working properly and the USB port. Should I keep anything unplugged from the USB port until this is checked? Mainly wanting my 5 GHz range back and USB to power on. It may be a good sanity check to see if anything else is in a weird state that would be related to the USB and 5GHz. Maybe the 2.4GHz is next lol.

Hi Fraser. I've seen other posts around the wifi and USB as well. Thank you for passing this on. I'd love to know if they find anything around the wifi and USB issues. I've even downgraded to prior firmware which didn't change anything, so wonder if something bugged out or got stuck due to an update/downgrade, or anything else. I'm posting from my desktop hard wired in to the R3 which has Remote access turned on. My modem doesn't have wifi, so I've left it unchanged and have left other settings unchanged. Please also check the logs I provided in my prior post. Something else seems to be janky in the DHCP world. Although, today seemed better for my work laptop. I haven't caught my phone constantly disconnecting from 2.4ghz like it was from my logs, but it may still be doing it if I watch it closely after work here.

Unplugged it for 5 min, plugged directly into the wall. No difference. USB port still indicates no power. Phone still disconnecting constantly from the 2.4GHz. No difference in the 5 foot range for 5GHz band. I even tried doing manual bands and frequencies the other night. Please have someone remote into my router. I honestly don't know what else I can check. The router USB and 5GHz was fine before. I want to swap to my XR500 for work but want to still allow the R3 to be looked at remotely. Should I set the R3 as an AP off the XR500? Or what would you suggest? And can someone please look at it soon? I want an expert to check so we can understand what else is needing to be looked at or if we go down the RMA route.

@Netduma Fraser, I did a factory reset on v.4.0.540. No changes to the 5GHz band. Devices seem to only detect it within 5'. I downgraded to v.4.0.290. No changes. Devices also seem to only detect it within 5'. I tried auto and assigning a channel to the 5GHz and this doesn't change anything regarding the range to exceed 5'. Logs attached for what it's worth. To reiterate, no walls in-between where I am testing, no other online devices, no other changes to the environment when the 5GHz band used to work with OK range. Antenna's have been in the same position as well. Literally just one day the 5GHz only reaches 5' out. At first, I thought it was simply down. It's up, just only within 5' lol. Heck, even the 5Ghz band used to reach outside 20' through the exterior walls. Please let me know next steps. It's been I think 3 months on this router. I worry it gets more issues with age. I can try to unplug and plug the antenna's back in just as a sanity check.. Update: Plugging the antenna back in did nothing. I also noticed my USB laptop fan I have plugged into the R3 router (have always had my R3 on it with 0 issues) isn't turning on. This never prevented a 5GHz signal going beyond 5' as the signal was much stronger before on the same laptop fan. I then went and tested multiple low power USB devices on the R3 USB port and no device gets power, no phone will charge, no device will power on, no power light on it, nothing. So now the USB port doesn't work. Not sure if this got shot during a firmware update/factory reset. Something tells me an internal part of this R3 has stopped working that feeds power/connections to the USB and/or 5GHz antenna. I wonder if the device only works within 5' because the 5GHz antennae aren't connecting to something internally, so the router loses the range the antennae provide. 2.4GHz works fine, it seems. no clue if these use different antennae, though. To add... I have found other posts with similar issues, so it seems it's not only me. I have done what you have suggested in other posts below: Split the bands, give 2.4/5GHz different names and apply - you'll want to connect to 5GHz specifically for speeds Use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congested channel and change to that Experiment with the widths to see what gives better results Ensure it's in an elevated position - not on a metal surface Ensure there aren't any electrical / wireless devices e.g headphones etc within close proximity ~3 feet if possible Set the antennae to this position _ | | _ Again, literally nothing changed and just the other day the 5GHz range went down to 5' only against multiple devices (so I know it's not my phone), and my USB port isn't working. I am still downgraded to firmware v.4.0.290. Satuday update: I did a hard reset with the button on the back for 30 seconds, waited 5 min, and still nothing has changed. I had turned on Remote Access as I'd like someone to poke around and check anything else. Without any resolution, I would like to do a warrantied replacement/RMA. Sunday update: My work laptop and only my Iphone 14 pro is disconnecting constantly due to DHCP requests. I have it set to 10000 minutes as well as assigning a static IP address to the device. In system logs (added logs), you can see it constantly trying to connect to my iphone and identifying "DHCPREQUEST" and "DHCPACK". I've restarted my phone, re-assigned a new IP address, and it is still doing the same thing. My phone constantly is going on/off the 2.4GHz band and now my work laptop (unfortunately i had to work this weekend). My phone and work laptop on the 2.4GHz band now show a weaker signal in the Device Manager even though I am in plain sight from the router (router even pointing at me) within 20'. It hadn't been this weak before. Again, no added interference. Iphone wifi settings are the same as the wives and hers stays connected. I also received my USB Digital Multimeter. Works on ports on my PC. Plugged it into the back of the router and it receives no power. Got this to further confirm if the USB port is working or not. I've been on the latest firmware since the beta with factory reset at time of update. It was only until recently that the 5GHz band got extremely weak. I may first factory reset on the current firmware, check the 5GHz range, and if it's still weak, I can downgrade and try that. It will have to be later tonight. I'll report back then.

Just checked. All directions are the same result. No walls in-between my primary PC area. Other direction is at the front by the wall to outside. it only picks up signal within 5' all direction. Any further out, no signal. Before, I could go be outside 20' + through a wall and have a signal. Now no signal past 5'. I had set the 5ghz to channel 52 as it was the least congested. I did this maybe a week ago? Since then, it was fine. I understand microwaves and other devices can interfere. This is why I stressed nothing has changed. Everything has been in the same spots they have been in. microwave isn't running 24/7 and hasn't been moved. We have not added wireless devices, remotes, etc, anywhere here. Nothing outside either, no added cameras, etc. Nothing has changed. I appreciate the standard checks, which is why I mentioned in my prior post nothing has changed. To add, we moved remotes and other small devices even further away as a sanity check. No changes to the 5gh signal. I can try changing the 5ghz channel back to Auto, gave it a few min, checked back and it's still set to auto - no changes to the 5GHz range.

Hi, this doesn't change anything. I haven't changed anything else around the house or on the network, etc. I have tried turning the 5GHz band on/off and rebooted the router last night. Btw. I think I see what's happening. my work laptop (has been in the same spot forever), is picking up 1 bar wifi signal and sometimes it loses it. Laptop is maybe 15-20' from router. It has had full wifi signal prior to this, as well as other devices in that range. In the same 15-20', my iphone doesn't see the signal anymore. When I walk up within 2' from the router, it then picks up the 5GHz signal. As I walk 10' away, signal is lost. If I set my PC to wifi (so removing it from ethernet cable), it can't see the 5GHz signal either. It seems that the routers 5GHz band has an extremely weak signal that is now only usable within maybe 5' of the router. Antennas are all screwed in and untouched, and in the upright position. Literally nothing has changed, nothing physically blocking it. 5GHz signal used to be stronger and further than 5'. I've attached new logs. R3_2025-03-21T18_31_41.423Z_logs.txt

5Ghz band went down on multiple devices. This was at random. Hard wired PCs internet still works as well as the separated 2.4ghz band. Logs attached. I only noticed 5 minutes just prior to downloading the logs (was in a game). Unsure when it actually went offline.R3_2025-03-21T04_20_31.284Z_logs.txt

Steady Ping servers not matching game, need help understanding
V1k1 replied to V1k1's topic in Netduma R3 Support
Today was so bad I don't think I can play Valorant with this router at this point in time. I tried rebooting everything, tried without steadyping. Mine won't even show a server (it briefly did at the start of our gaming session). My wife's PC is showing stuck in Oklahoma City with consistent spikes in ping up to 100-200 even though we are only connecting to the California server - in game ping shows 25-30 with Steadyping on. Per the router settings, nothing else is happening on our network besides gaming, she's not even alt-tabbing during the ping spikes. Our PCs also show no other network activity. We both are getting some hitch in-game, like a quick lag spike that is seen/felt and it matches with what the router shows when it spikes. In-game, bullets aren't connecting, we're dying nearly before we see an enemy. It's honestly getting worse day by day. When the router shows low ping, everything is so good, so fluid, close to real-time feeling. I honestly don't know what to do or expect at this point anymore. I'm seeing other posts of similar issues (I gave the other user my experience). What is happening? Why is this getting worse day by day? Are there back-end updates happening? What is being worked on currently to alleviate or even look into what's causing this issue? I would like to know as it's apparent that other are experiencing similar issues in BO6. I don't want to have to look into other routers as this one is still fairly new.
